A friend of mine has a Colt with a slabside lower marked AR-15, A1 upper with triangular handguards, no forward assist or brass deflector, and A1 barrel. There is a Colt 3x20 scope mounted on the carry handle. 1979 production according to the serial number. What is the approximate value of this rifle? What about the Colt scope? Thanks! Edit - it's 1977, not 79. |

Need a bit more info about the condition - i.e. is it new in box, is it 99%, is the bore shot out, is the bolt carrier group Colt, are there scratches underneath the scope mounting hole, are the stock & handguards in good shape? Post pics if possible, and look on the EE and on Gunbroker for comparison. Lately I've seen SP1s from like $800 - $1XXX. While there has been a trend as of late appreciating "retro"-type ARs, still most people these days are buying M4-type carbines. The SP1 could command slightly more in ban states that allow grandfathered guns. |
I would say probably 95% condition. The bore is chrome lined. Stock and handguards in good shape - the plastic is kinda "shiny"... not like the new production plastic that is more of a matte finish. No scratches. One thing that I thought was unusual... the bolt carrier has ridges for a forward assist, but there is no forward assist on this upper. Does that mean that the carrier has been changed out? |
They were all like this, even without a forward assist. People ask around $1000 for the rifle like that and $200 for the scope. A good deal would a grand for the rifle and scope. |
