Beat you to it! Once I went to a local indoor 3 gun match  where they had a low light round. All the guys had taclights properly mounted. Well being a po boy at the time I went out to my truck grabbed my 3 cell mag light and duct tape then strapped it on ala M203 on my 20" A2. Not retro, more like redneck tactical.

I used to tape my mini mag onto my M16 when I was in the Marines when we did MOUT well over ten years ago so you might not have beat me to it.

Useless trivia question: How did the tool we all know as our beloved "flashlight" get it's name?

Way back when, when the first flashlights were developed, battery technology was not up to today's standards. Also, electric bulb technology was a little lacking so, flashlights could not be left on for very long before the batteries went dead. To make the batteries last longer the lights were flashed on for very short time, just long enough to get ones bearings and then back off. This was done repeatedly until one reached his destination. Thus, we still call our portable, self contained, illumination device a "Flashlight".

DocMike, that is some pretty cool info. I wanted to originally take this picture as a joke a few moths back when someone asked about retro illumination but another recent thread got me to do it instead. thought you guys would get a kick out of it. The flashlight is a retro, obviously, and the scope is older than the rifle and the flashlight combined. The 100 MPH tape is new though. For everyone that didn't like it.... Get a sense of humor...

I can remember as a young teen back in the late 80's seeing maglights strapped onto varous weapons, and some older photos going back to sometime in the 70's.

Really DM's pic ain't that far off, some creative SOB just decided to duc tape a light on his gun when he couldn't see!
