I was searching gun broker and came across this picture. I've never seen a buffer like this before so I thought I'd share.

Wtf is that? Maybe a nylon buffer from a 606..? Looks like the same shape as an Edgewater..

ETA: (I have no idea what a 606 buffer looks like but I think I remember someone saying they're made of plastic or nylon or something)

My thoughts exactly.

At first glance I thought it was an Edgewater.

It it late production Colt buffer they installed in the Match Target civilian sales rifles. I bought a NIB COLT Match Target in like 1998 and it had this buffer. Most just chuck it and get a regular USGI spec buffer to replace it.

The buffer as pictured with the stock is not period correct.

My friend had a Colt with a buffer similar to that but it was a few years since I saw it.  I recently saw a buffer like that come out of a brand new Bushmaster lower with the fake collapsible stock???

I have one of those I got out of my DPMS varmit rifle.  I also thought "what the hell is this".  I replaced it with a standard metal one.

It worked fine, so there was no real reason to replace it other than it just wasn't right in my opinion.

Dang!  I have a set just like it I would be willing to part with for the bargain price of just $500.

Some people don't have a clue.

The 606 buffer is white nylon and does not have those grooves on the spring end.

That's a 90's nylon buffer that Colt substituted for the original aluminum buffer as a cost savings measure.  Performance was supposed to be equivalent to the aluminum buffer.  Apparently they went back to the aluminum buffer not too long after introducing the nylon one had.  If you can look at a copy of "The Black Rifle 2" there is a picture and explanation.
