Dude, you live in Finland. If it made it all the way there it"s FATE. Of course it's original. It looks like someone welded the Moderator. That is a sweet upper. How did you come across it? Ronzo

Colt upper, yes.  Correct ejection port cover and rear sight assembly.

If the handguards each have six ventilation holes, they are likely authentic.

Any markings on the barrel that you can identify?  It appears to have the correct front sight base as well.

Moderator is not original nor is the grenade ring.  They appear to be welded to the barrel, but I can't tell from the photo.

More photos, descriptions of any markings will help.  Also a photo of the front of the moderator, looking in.

It looks like the moderator slips almost all the way over the barrel then welded, as I think I see the barrel in the slots.  Is there a barrel lenght requirement in Finland?  Looks like it is close to 16 inches but not all the way 16

Barrel is approximately 11" and moderator 5". Barrel+moderator total lenght is a bit over 16". In Finland rifle barrels under 40cm≈16" are not forbidden but it is easier to get a license for rifles with barrel lenght over 40cm.

Looks exactly like what lives at my house---an SP1 carbine with the barrel cut to XM177 length and an aftermarket compensator tacked on

Except my comp looks slightly more original because I machined it to the correct dimensions myself. On the other hand yours is a lot more "real" looking than most of the aftermarket stuff sold here in the States.

Thats what I was thinking. On the original XM177E2's there are no forge marks correct? Just proof stamps, and also counter bored pivot pin holes right?

I was thinking SP1 because that pin hole looks pretty big.

Oops. You are right. I forgot to mention that it is a large hole upper. This upper should have 16" barrel and bayonet lug in original setup, model R6001?
