A buddy of  mine has an SP1 5 digit serial #, says it is still in good condition. He has had it since early to mid 80's not sure of the round count. 20in barrel.

Any idea what the value would be or where I could look it up? He is thinking about trading it for a bushmaster xm15-e2s... I told him to hang on to his and go buy a Bushmaster after all 1 is none!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Come guys any Help?

I know he bought it used when he got out of Boot Camp, so that would have been about 85 or 86. Said  it was like one he used there and he believes it was made in 1972. I do know he has not put many rounds through it. If he put 2000 rounds through it I would be shocked but no idea how many before he bought it.

Well if I do not get back to him today he is just going to trade it. I think it is worth more but I do not know for sure.

This is why I asked the ones with the knowledge

So, is it worth more than a Bushmaster? Would that be a fair trade?

Thanks,
Skiptracer

Well if the guts of the rifle and the barrel are still really good, and if he has only put 2000 rounds through the rifle... It comes down to cosmetics really. If you can, get some pictures up and it'll help others give you an estimate.

Thanks Covert.

I could not even get him to post here and he is tough to get a hold of. Lives 1300 miles from me so I can't just run over there. I told him to hold off hoping I could get some info that would give him a better idea of the value.

Thanks,

IMHO - you will not find an all original , excellent condition SP1 ANYWHERE for
under $1K

Not on the Auctions , Not at a Gunshow , and Not in your local Gunshop.

And I ain't sellin mine.

We need a lot more info to give a price.  Your question right now with the information given is like saying "My buddy has a Trans Am from the mid eighties with low miles- what is it worth?"  Well, is it all original, what condition is the exterior in, etc, etc.  Prices can vary wildly based on features, finish, all-orignial, original box and papers included, and so forth- it is impossible to give any price more than saying in the $1K range without knowing more and pictures are a HUGE help.  If your friend doesn't even feel like posting here, much less taking a picture, then it would seem he doesn't have all that much interest in really knowing its worth(?)

Ballpark pricing is to watch gunrboker and see what SP1's are going for- $1000 give or take would be average.  There are several in taht range not being bid on, it seems $800 is considered a decent bargain.

Thanks for the replies! I will forward the information on to him. He read the thread last night so who knows maybe he will post.
