From Wikipedia:

The Model 605B had no forward assist, but had a four-way selector switch so that a user may select safe, semi-automatic, three-round burst, or full automatic. Instead of three-round burst, the burst cam could be modified to two-round or six-round burst. The 4-position selector was developed by Foster Sturtevant in December 1966.

I had no idea this existed. Was this really ever used?

How would the ergonomics work? Does it rotate 360 degrees somehow?

Have you ever looked at an AR15 selector? Ya know the divots and "track" for the selector detent? All you would need to do is drill two more divots and cut that track out between them and BAM. 4 Pos selector.

Yeah, but you'd also have to mill the flanges of the lower reciever, and wouldn't the rear takedown pin get in the way?

Besides, how do they work the rest of the mechanism (full auto AND burst) into it?

Ive seen 4pos selectors for sale on NFA boards etc. I never looking into to it real hard but they are out there and I guess they work.

Someone on these boards just recently picked up a 605B, posted the pictures of the selector.  Maybe they'll come along and post them quickly here too.

Note that there are two generations of four-position selector as well.  The first generation on the CAR-15 series goes S-F-1-3 IIRC, while the second generation on Colt's Enhanced series should follow a more logical S-1-3-F pattern.

It looks like this

The under side of the selector is milled to allow 360 degree rotation.
