I know it's on the site somewhere but I can't find it. What years did they use the slab side upper. I just got my hands on one and don't know if I should build a retro or just pass it on to someone with more knowledge about these things. How would the barrel on a slab side be marked?

Slabsides were used from '59ish to to '84ish.   What year are you trying to reproduce?

I actually have a C MP CHROME BORE that it is great condition. Would that be correct for any year on a slab side?

That is a great barrel that was produced from about '74 to the A2s started around '85.  If it's a small hole receiver you're good to go.

The pivot hole is larger than normal. What does that tell me?

I just bought an Air Force contract upper this week.  It is a slab side with and A1 flash hider and a C MP C barrel and it is in great shape. I was planning on removing the barrel and replacing the upper with a flat top for a 22LR platform but now I don't know.  I kind of like the A1 slab side.

Is the front pin hole counter bored?

You may have a SP1 upper. You can get a conversion pin that will allow it to work with your lower.

The front hole on the slab side is NOT counter bored. I do have another A1 upper with a forward assist and a small hole that is counterbored. What does that mean?

Your receiver came of a Colt SP1.  Best bet is to sell it to this guy and buy a small hole.

you'll both be happy.  You could go the offset bushing route but why bother.

Counterboring helps to determine the date but none of the SP1s were counterbored.

Ranchhand. If I sell it to the guy you suggested, what is it worth? It is in 90-95% condition.
