I am not sure if this is retro, but attached are pictures of my transferable M16a2 model 723 for your review.  I believe it is all original from as i received it from the arkansas state police via John Norrell.  It in the low 8 million range...80006xx.

It has an A1 14.5" thin barreled upper with NO case deflector, tear-drop forward assist, CH marked upper, bell shaped casting mark on front sight tower, 1/7 barrel, and A2  flash hider.

Lower has A2 improvements and is burst marked with auto internals from factory. A2 pistol grip, staked on vinyl coated aluminum 2-position stock.

Early 723.

The square dings in the side by the delta ring prove its original as the earliest I've seen them is the mid 80s.

653 have a 1/12 barrel.

The 723 was the replacement for the 653.

Ohhhh...I thought the 723 had an M4 barrel. I must be thinking of the 727.

Man that is a thing of beauty! I like all AR15's not just the older ones. One of my AR15's is a copy of my issue weapon, an M16 A2. But mine is a properly marked post 86 MG complete with burst internals. I have found that on burst I can hit a 10" target 18 out of 30 rounds at 100 yards so there are times when I think having a burst lower is great.

723s can also have an M4 barrel.

This is the perfect example of "quit while you're ahead." This is as far as Colt really needed to go to create the perfect assault rifle. It is light, accurate, and effective. No need to carry the features any further. It has everything it needs, no more, no less.

NICE!

Thanks guys...I thought it was original when i got it, but just wanted to run it past a few people to make sure.  If there are any more pictures that are needed for reference or grins and giggles let me know.

It shoots great...i use my bushmaster 14.5" M4 upper and a current stock body to preserve the original equipment...also the bushmaster begs for beta dumps as it has about 10k full-auto rounds down the pipe with no problems!

I have a lot of full-autos, but i honestly think the M16 would be the last to go if i was forced to sell...it is so versatile and parts are very readily available.  Unlike the HK eurotrash the M16 family has a HUGE following.  That being said, my MP5, HK51 and HK53 rank a close second, third, fourth, and fifth!!

Thanks for sharing the pics.

One question, can you check and see if it has extended ramps?  I suspect it does not.

OK, another question, can I use a few of those pics for the Carbine guide here:

With credit to you of course.

No extended (M4) feed ramps on this upper.

Absolutley use the pictures if needed

Bryan, have you had it long?  Say a few years at least?

Did you get it from a guy named Glenn?  A friend of mine just sold that very same configuration rifle a few years ago.

The sad thing was he paid $800 for it ...

I got it in late 2005...wasn't from a guy named Glenn

Unfortunately i paid about 12k for mine ...but i love it!

I have had M16a1s in various configurations, but narrowed my collection down to this one.

Holy crap! 12K was a great deal!  I paid a little more for mine around the same time. Unfortunately mine are A2 marked on A1 lowers.

Have two of them...they both came from the Arkansas State Police via Dealer in Arkansas.  They are identical to yours in every other way.  Same barrel markings, they also came with the full auto FCG factory installed.

They are only one serial number apart from each other, but a later number than yours.

Both had zero wear on them.  Gotta love the Arkansas State Police for buying so many of these in the mid '80's.

Put KNS pins on one of them for an occasional shooter the other is a safe queen.

Wow, nice 723s guys!

I'm in the process of my first retro build, a 723 clone.

It seems like both the Gen I 2 position CAR stock or the Gen II 4 pos. CAR stock (with ribs) would be correct, right?  Just checking.

Thanks!
