| Were there any triangle style handguards made that were all aluminum or metal? I had always assumed they were all plastic, but I have someone who says he has metal ones. Any info would be appreciated. |

Howdy folks. Onepoint was inquiring about these handguards on my behalf. I just registered here, although some of you may already know me from other boards. I was under the distinct impression that these were aluminum, from the feel and the sound of them. I had mistakenly told him they were aluminum. They are not. I just got home and checked them thoroughly, and they seem to be some sort of carbon fiber, not an injection molded plastic. I can see a "grain" or "texture" at the ends of the material (at the vent openings in the top) that looks almost like cardboard, if that makes any sense. When I tap the handguards with my fingernail or a pencil, they "ring" like aluminum, not plastic. And the scratches in the paint appear to be silver below, so I made an assumption. But upon closer inspection, it does seem to be some sort of carbon fiber-ish material. I am no expert on what materials were used on these handguards, so any input would be appreciated. I purchased these at a gunshow for pocket change, with the intent to either install them on my AR15 (A2) just for kicks, or to resell. I know several people who have been looking for an "old style" triangular handguard for the retro-look, and figured I could sell them. I am interested in what is a fair value for them. |
