I put an new Colt M16/SP1 upper on a Colt Govt 6550 lower with Colt B/BC. I replaced the handguards and the stock with milsurp M16 furniture. Just took it and the upper for the 6550 mounted on a new MEGA lower. Fired the MEGA, my handloads, worked perfectly. Same Colt 20rd magazine, same ammo, SP1 upper would not chamber. After screwing around I noticed that if I hand chambered the first round the rest of magazine fired fine. Problem is the bolt does not go back as far into the receiver/stock body with the M16/SP1 upper as it does with the A2 upper. There is a 1/2-3/4" difference. This means the spring pressure strips the round and chambers it with the A2 upper whereas the SP1/M16 upper does not. Am I missing something? It only does this with my handloads. Israeli MILSURP and Wolf strip and chamber fine in it. rk |

When you added the A1 buttstock to the Colt Govt 6550 lower, did you use the same screw that came off the A2 stock? It is longer than the screw for an A1 stock (almost the length that you describe)and will prohibit full rear travel of the bolt carrier assembly. Works fine on the MEGA lower with A2 stock becuase the spacer between the end of the buffer tube and the buttstock prevents the screw from sticking into the buffer tube. Sounds like you need to find an A1 screw to go in the end of the buffer tube on the 6550 lower. Hope that helps. Let us know. Edited to add "dang, I'm a slow typist".
