Thank you for the links. I checked Smith Enterprises website and could not find the chrome parts. So I gave them a call. I was told they are not on the website because they are not for sale to the public through them. I was told they are only sold to the US Government and to Brownells. I was told quality was better than Colt OK, Brownells dealer price is very reasonable. IM me if anyone is interested in a chrome bolt from Brownells. Thanks |

The later Smith Enterprises chrome bolts & carriers are marketed by SEI, but may not have been actually manufactured by them. The carriers are marked "D", same as DPMS carriers. Both carrier assemblies exhibit very similar poor quality as compared to Colt/USGI, earlier "SE" marked Smith Enterprises assemblies, or other high quality hard chrome assemblies I have seen. When I emailed Ron Smith to ask about the similarity of markings and exactly what the "D" stood for, he replied that "D stands for delta". Along those lines, I know what "BS" stands for also. If I were going to buy chrome bolt & carrier assemblies of DPMS quality, I would not want to pay SEI prices for them. I bought a "D" marked chrome M16 bolt & carrier assembly from SEI for $205 several years ago. After taking a very good look at the quality or lack thereof, I sold it without ever firing it. I have thought about getting some modern Colt MPC bolts hard chromed by somebody very familiar with firearms parts plating. I still might wind up doing exactly that. FWIW, Carey |
