A while back I got my second AR15 after having sold the first one because I need to cash it out for another project. Not long ago I got an A1 configured one built on an Essential Arms lower. It has the A1 upper but with a 3 prong flash hider (where they ever on the A1's? if no I have a birdcage on the way.

So Back when I got it it had no finish left on it and having a can of British Black taking up space on the shelf I painted it then baked it for an hour at 150 :)

Now my interests are changing and I want to paint it in something at least close to the original colors. I like the ease of use of Alumahyde but could live with Norells or Lauers, tho Wife won't like the abuse of her oven (another reason I like the Alumahyde, no oven cure needed)

But which color to go with?
Alumahyde

Geez, I haven't posted here in Forever! It works out though, this Retro area is perfect for my tastes.

I think the consensus is go with Norrell's Flat Grayish-Black Moly Resin.

everything i hear also is norrell's.  i have heard 2 different colors though.

GRAY Flat
A match to older gray military parkerizing including some very early Colt M-16 rifles. Gray flat in coloration with an almost unnoticeable (except under certain lighting conditions) a very slight tint of green. This is a lighter shade of gray than our Greenish-Gray.

GRAYISH-BLACK Flat
Dark gray-black coloration with a flat appearance. This duplicates the appearance of the early original Colt AR-15/M-16 finish. This is the same product that is purchased from us by the U.S. Military to refinish Colt M-16's.

hear are a couple pics that hopefully stir the pot a bit

here is YarDogOne's in Norrell's Grey

here is eklikwhoa's in Norrell's Flat Grey-Black

Ahh the pics clarify muchly. Norrells Grey Flat it is. I'll just time everything for when wife is out of town for the ease of baking and less getting yelled at for using the oven to cook a rifle.

A toaster oven from wal-mart should also work.  These are usually under $50.00.  I'm hoping to do a little painting with Norrell's tomorrow.

On any nice weekend day, drive around a little. Every yard sale in America has a toaster oven for $5-10. In my state, you can't officially call it a yard sale unless there's an old cordless phone, one piece of exercise equipmnet, at least one Fisher-Price thing and a toaster oven.
