This is a lower that i previously modified to A1 specs , i got a new upper receiver for it and i was going to have to refinish it anyway so i decided to weld over the 'safe-fire' markings on the right side of the receiver , here is a visual  step by step on how i did it for you guys who might want to try this , and these are the tools i used , I gave it a very low pressure sand blast (60 psi) and a shot of Norells with a airbrush :

Machine : I used er4043 rod with pure argon , and the Tig set at 80 amps.- the rod leaves no porosity- once it is sandblasted it will become invisible - and then the norells will be the final touch.

Ok, you made me have to go redo mine... It didnt turn out as good as yours but hey, its a start...

I recut everything to make it look better and coverd the selector markings up.

DM , looks great to me ! , it looks like you have the exact same Colt  upper as i do - mine had a real rough texture to it so i sprayed it with norells - sanded it with 600grt. paper and i will give it another coat of norells tomorrow to match the smoother texture of my lower - what did you use for filling up the selector markings ?

My next project will be a "worn finish" battle field looking rifle - its gonna have some "character" !

The upper receiver is actually an Olympic Arms upper. I had a Bushmaster one that I had the brass deflector ground off of but I got this in on a trade and decided to use it instead. As for filling the selector markings, I used fast steel, a steel reinforced epoxy putty. It is pretty sturdy, I use it to build up stocks and make pistol grips with so I know it holds up well. As for the finish I just sprayed it with krylon again but will change that later on when I get in a break from buying toys. I wish I could get the more fine detailed lines in there like you do, yours look superb.
