I was thinking something more along the lines of "The Green Berets" by Barry Sadler. That song and the Duke's Movie by the same title made an impression on my young mind, and the movie had lots of M16's in it. But if we need smoke filled cave music how about something by Jim Morrison and the Doors like "The End", 11 minutes of them at their best. Darn, time to spin that vinyl... Paladin |
Very appropriate.

Hey Joe. As done by Hendrix. That song makes me want to dangle my legs out of a chopper Hey Joe, where you goin' with that gun in your hand? Hey Joe, I said, where you goin' with that gun in your hand? I'm goin' down to shoot my old lady, You know I caught her messin' round with another man. |

"Eve of Destruction', by Bary McGuire (1965) The eastern world it tis explodin', violence flarin', bullets loadin', you're old enough to kill but not for votin', you don't believe in war, what's that gun you're totin', and even the Jordan river has bodies floatin', but you tell me over and over and over again my friend, ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction. Don't you understand, what I'm trying to say? Can't you see the fear that I'm feeling today? If the button is pushed, there's no running away, There'll be noone to save with the world in a grave, take a look around you, boy, it's bound to scare you, boy, but you tell me over and over and over again my friend, ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction. Kind of a lefty song, but the music is great, and it was a major super hit of the time. |

Everyone knows this one: Da dada da da, dum dum dum dadum dum Whisky19

+1 on all that Jazz! And "Hey Joe?!" The best song on the consequences of cheating ever written. "Santaria" is good too, but no matter how pissed you are at who's porking your S/O, it's the person who betrayed your loyalty who deserves your ire... |

All good choices, but the early M16 era extends into the 80's too. How about Dire Straits' BROTHERS IN ARMS ? These mist covered mountains Are a home now for me But my home is the lowlands And always will be Some day youll return to Your valleys and your farms And youll no longer burn To be brothers in arms Through these fields of destruction Baptisms of fire Ive watched all your suffering As the battles raged higher And though they did hurt me so bad In the fear and alarm You did not desert me My brothers in arms Theres so many different worlds So many differents suns And we have just one world But we live in different ones Now the suns gone to hell And the moons riding high Let me bid you farewell Every man has to die But its written in the starlight And every line on your palm Were fools to make war On our brothers in arms 17 year old FMLN guerilla Rufino Ortega Lopez in El Salvador, 1987 http://www.xs4all.nl/~ae4811/rufino/rufino3.jpg |
I'd be down for that one - btw, actual title is "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida." |

Missed it by a year |
Man, I don' wanna think of how old I was when those came out.... ![]() FWIW, every time I get ready to do a mag dump, I start humming Sweet Little 16 by Chuck Berry: They're really rockin' in Boston In Pittsburgh, Pa. Deep in the heart of Texas And round the 'Frisco Bay All over St.Louis And down in New Orleans All the cats wanna dance with Sweet Little Sixteen... |
Notice the song hilighted in red |

I had to throw my $.02 in when I did not see this mentioned. Check this site: http://www.intheshadowoftheblade.com/ This is a site dedicated to the Huey helicopter and the Vietnam veterans. The blade player on the site has some good songs especially "Living in the Shadow". This site needs to be checked out by anyone in this forum who supports the Veterans. |
| Joined up just so I could put in my nomination for "The Retro Theme Song". Hands down it would have to be "One Son Of A Gun Of A Gun" by Staff Sergeant Barry Sadler from the alblum I believe was "The Ballads Of The Green Beret". The words go something like this: "You can take away my green beret and every other thing but leave my AR-15, to me she's a queen, she' the best friend I've ever known. Cause she's one son of a gun of a gun." |
Don't recall much else of the show save the opening, with 'Paint it Black' for background, guys in a Huey headed for a presumably hot LZ, with much jacking of charging handles... +1 for 'Paint it Black', with an honorable mention for 'Run Thru the Jungle.' Wish I could work Zevon's 'Roland the Thompson Gunner' in somehow...song noir indeed. Moon |
