I'm sure not a Gore supporter by any stretch of the imagination, but I'd give him a little break on this. It appears to me anyway that he's not actually looking down the barrel, but he's jacking around with the sling and front swivel. I myself don't like having the business end of a barrel pointed anywhere close to me even when I know the firearm is unloaded, though.  Here's my "retro". A1 upper from CDNN, SP1 bolt and carrier that I had laying around and Colt Match Target lower, not quite gray, but not as dark of finish as a lot of them I've seen. It's close enough I'm not going to mess with it.

I think he means it looks like the background should be the Golani Heights or the beach at Haifi.  By the way, why do the canteen covers say in Hebrew "For intended use only, not to be taken internally"?

The Colt A1 upper, Eagle Arms A1 lower, charging handle and delta ring were reanodized by Victor Mederos in Colt gray.

Wow, the correct lower really sets off an A1 build.  I really like those Coal Valley lowers.  Too bad States like yours have those goofy laws that drive the price up on stuff like that.  Hopefully ASA will get that batch of retro lowers done soon.

Raptor,

First, awesome rifle!  Second, (and I hope this isn't a dumb question), how do A1 lowers like yours and current A2 lowers differ?  It appears there is less reinforcement by the pivot pin on the A1... anything else?

It's funny, as soon as I saw your pic I ran to the gun cabinet all excited... I used an EA Coal Valley lower on my very recent A1 clone project also... but NOPE, it's an A2 lower (serial # around 9000).  Darn it!

Ahhh, now I get it.  Israel has more than sand to it, so I missed the humor.

Being as I didn't write it, I've got no idea, but when things are given to me I try not to ask too many questions.....

we were watching Mail Call last night, it was an episode where Gunny was shooting an M1 Garand. I told Frau Quib that an M1 would be a nice partner for my 98k Mauser……..she said I should get one from the CMP! I still think I was dreaming!

Also, would a chrome slabside B/BC be accurate in a slabside SP1 upper from, say, the 70's?

Getting ready for ASA to send out thier retro lowers.  Here is the XM116E1 parts kit I managed to put together.

Anbody got any ideas on how I can get the ASA lower to match the brown pantina of my XM16E1 upper?  I tried baking that charging handle in wheel bearing grease, but as you can see did not stain it (but did make a real bad stink).

I have a Bushmaster lower and 11.5/5.5 barrel that's destined to become an XM177E2 clone.  Does anyone still make A1-style uppers without the brass deflector?

Actually they have second generation owners, they were bought for $214.00 each back in 1966. My Dad bought one and my cousins Dad bought the other one. They were ordered from Colt  and factory engraved with our Dad's names on the lower right receiver.

From Pg 33 of their 2005 catalog:
STRIPPED A1 SLICK-SIDED
UR-01-E3SS  $144.95
A1 style fixed carry handle
Patterned after the original slick-sided A1
Dust cover only, no shell deflector or f/a
Forged 7075 alu. that has been T6 heat-treated, hard coat anodized(Mil-A-8625A)
Teflon coated black.

I guess they're black.  The pic is smallish and b/w.

Hope this helps

if i were to build the xm clone with a slabside it would be considered a usaf xm, correct?

found the answer to my question

taken from total silence inc. website

s previously mentioned, the only difference between the US Army XM177E1 and US Air Force
XM177 was the US Air Force's preference to not have a forward-assist. Similarly, the US Air
Force adopted it's own variants of the XM177 series that started with the prefix GAU-5 or
Gun/Aircraft Unit. For example, the XM177 (Colt 610), was designated the GAU-5/A. With the
adoption of the XM177E2 (Colt 629), the US Air Force designated the standard XM177E2 as the
GAU-5/A/B, and later without a forward assist as the GAU-5/A/A (Colt 630)
.
