Hmmm. I had not known that the GUU-5P came with a complete M4 upper. I have seen them with the old M16 style upper and an M4 barrel though.   I need to get some better pics of these guys. I have seen several Air Force weapons with the 14.5-inch lightweight barrel as in the above pic that are marked GUU-5P. Have not seen one marked GAU-5P yet.       Only pic I have of the last GUU as my camera batteries were dying, the GUU-5P is on the far right |

Is that what it is? Who'da known? It didn't start out to be this way... but this way it is. Guess I need to find a picture of a real 653 to go with it. So that makes it a GAU-5/P? Other AF Nomenclature Issues: - More agreed upon specifics for the following designations (and I might be putting ones in this list which don't exist, so it would be helpful to point that out too): XM177, GAU-5, GAU-5A, GAU-5A/A, GAU-5A/B, GAU-5P See below So far, this is what we have: XM177: Colt Model 610 GAU-5/A: Colt Model 610 GAU-5/A/A: Either Colt Model 630 or 649 GAU-5/A/B: Either Colt Model 629 or 630 GAU-5/P: Either Colt 653 and/or rebuilds of previous GAU-5s to similar standard |

Well kinda, if you swapped the delta ring, buttstock, castle nut, and the barrel is a bit long. But, that what it reminds me of. |

Did the slab side XM607 have a chrome bolt and carrier? |
All 607s have a chrome carrier as they we made prior to the switch to the transitional carrier. Transitional carrier is a parked carrier, chrome key, parked solid firing pin retainer, chrome bolt. |
Just got back from LDAC, huh? They are sending them to the smelter? That sucks. I dunno bout yours, but my A1 hiccuped a bit out there, could have been the blank adapter... |

He's previously posted on my site that it is the slip over one. Its a 16" lightweight barrel under there. I've thought about doing that myslef, but I like the feel and balance of my rifle so well the way it is, I hate to screw with it. |

To those interested in an XM607 build we have a large supply of XM607 handguards available at this time, but we are down to less than 10 buttstocks. We do not intend on building anymore so what we have is more than likely all that will be available. We do intend on working on some 601 parts from a generous person that is loaning us some of his parts. To those who are interested in the historical nature of these firearms, there is a write up and table listing the models you speak about with their names and configuration. While the table needs updating, it has been built based on the surrounding knowledge and history of these firearms. Sammy Total Silence Inc |
Thanks boss. It's a Bushmaster 16" lightweight barrel with a Bushmaster slipover flash suppressor. Which is one big chunk of steel. I don't have any scales for that weight range but it's rather heavy. Despite that the rifle balances at about the handguard slip ring. With an A1/A2/Phantom flash suppressor the rifle balances more at the pivot pin. So it's not too bad, but the rifle is a touch more "lively" handling with the smaller f/s's. I've not really taken the time to put this thing on paper other than the initial 25yd sight in.  But I don't have any problems making cans dance at any reasonable range with it.Total weight? Again, no resonable scale, only rather crappy bathroom scales. But I'm thinking it's around 5½ lbs. So go ahead and build one. You'll love it!!!!! And if you don't, there's something wrong with ya'.

I'm sure not a Gore supporter by any stretch of the imagination, but I'd give him a little break on this. It appears to me anyway that he's not actually looking down the barrel, but he's jacking around with the sling and front swivel. I myself don't like having the business end of a barrel pointed anywhere close to me even when I know the firearm is unloaded, though. Here's my "retro". A1 upper from CDNN, SP1 bolt and carrier that I had laying around and Colt Match Target lower, not quite gray, but not as dark of finish as a lot of them I've seen. It's close enough I'm not going to mess with it.
