I have an 8 inch barrel on my AR pistol. Is the Flaming Pig my only option for a flash hider? Or, can I use the Flash Can? Thanks for any help

I don't understand your question.  You can screw any muzzle device to your barrel, provided the threads match.  Flaming pig, flash can, A2 birdcage, whatever...

You can use whatever you want.

Took my A2 off my 10.5 inch and replaced it with a BRT comp helps direct some of the blast downrange.

A flash can does not reduce flash in the slightest. The flaming pig should significantly reduce flash, but not eliminate it. There are a few other good options now: Spikes Barking Spider, PWS CQB, VLTor Norwhal, etc. All these have a single baffle that strips some of the gasses off, which adds back pressure to ensure reliability on an AR pistol, and reduces flash.

flash cans do actually reduce the flash, not completely but it changes it's shape and it's not anything like a bare muzzle..  have you used one before?

Your question does not fully make sense, but as long as the threads match you are good to screw anything on the end of your barrel.  As for options, I currently run a Flaming Pig KX5 on my AR pistol and would recommend it.  With that being said, there are a large amount of different options out there and it is all in what you are looking to do.  Flash Suppression, sound control, recoil management, etc...

If you're trying to reduce muzzle flash, you probably will have to try different brands of ammo to see which will work for you.  I've had good luck with most versions of Hornady Tap, especially their 75gr SBR round, although it's a little smokey.  On the other hand, mil surplus M193 and M855 really generate some impressive fireballs, almost to the point that you don't need a weapons light.

What style would be preferred for a HD 10.5 inch pistol? I'd like to get most of the blast/noise away from me.

A suppressor.  Otherwise, plan the time to put on ear pro.

Suppressor is out of my budget.  I'll look into ear pro.
But what about the rest of my family that may be next to or behind me?
I would assume any if the flash can style would direct most of the noise/flash away, right?

Indoors, any effect it would have would be negligible.

if a suppressor is out of your budget then buy a 35 dollar flash can and a can of ear plugs for the family

everybody is going to or should need ear pro..  there is no magical thing you can put on your muzzle that will make it safe for everyone standing around watching, unless it's called a suppressor..

a flash can will however keep it from rattling everyone's teeth compared to other muzzle brakes, but it's not going to stop someone standing 20 feet behind you from needing ear plugs
