Does anyone have any input about having an SBR setup without a muzzle device? Yes, I know it will be VERY loud. Yes, I know there will be a "fireball"/bright flash when fired. I'm not worried about those issues as I plan on firing it suppressed. I'm only wondering if there are any mechanical issues that could arise from this setup if (for some reason) I had to fire the weapon without the suppressor on. For instance, could there be any damage to the barrel if fired this way? |

I would suggest at least one of the CMMG thread protectors. They have a crenelated (sp?) that looks cool. It should also protect the crown I think. They have 1/2" and 5/8". What caliber are you building?

I was thinking of building a 14" in 5.56 That should be a 1/2-28, thread. I would a minimum run a thread protector. There are also depending on the suppressor you are planning on buying many that use a flash hider/muzzle brake the screw into. As that case with say Surefire and a few other brands. Also realize that a 14" barrel is going to be an SBR without a permanently affixed flash hider or suppressor. |
