Hoping you guys can help out a newbie to pistols.

I succumbed to the Black Friday madness and compulsively bought the components to build a .300 AAC pistol.

My question for you is:

If I decide later on I want to create an SBR and pay the stamp on form 1, can I use the lower I purchased and used on the pistol? Could I continue to use the same lower on said pistol until form 1 is approved or do I have to purchase a new, unfired, stripped lower?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. You can go pistol to rifle or sbr, but not sbr or rifle to pistol. Who would know it's stupid blah blah, but yeah it's the rules. You're good to go.

You can of course go from rifle to pistol if it were a pistol first.

Now the gray question is whether you could go back to Title 1 pistol after SBRing it. You can go from SBR to Title 1 16" rifle, or even strip to receiver and transfer either as non-NFA firearms if you like, but ATF seems never to have officially addressed whether you can do the same by simply taking the stock off a SBR and declare it a pistol. All the evidence seems to me to indicate you'd still have an SBR, just using it without the stock.
