| I may build an AR pistol with the SIG brace soon and Inhave a question. Could I buy a stripped lower and build my pistol like I would with a regular build or do I need to register it somehow? Thanks |

I'm not intimately familiar with NC law either, but here, I just had my stripped lower transferred as "other" because that's all it is until I build it into something. "other firearm" on 4473 is federal requirement, nothing to do with TX or NC. Any state that has some sort of registration must use a separate form which of course means nada in another state. - OS |

The lower is transferred as "other" on the BATFE Form 4473. The lower itself is not "marked". Quoted:

Who would mark the lower as other? The lower is transferred as "other" on the BATFE Form 4473. The lower itself is not "marked". Yes, I understand that. Would I register it as "other" when I filled out the paperwork at my FFL? |

You have to get a permit in NC to buy a handgun if you don't have a carry permit, but a lower is not a handgun. NC has no registration of firearms beyond that. - OS |

There is no registration, the form you fill out at the FFL is merely a transfer sheet, there is not registration at the federal level, although your state may have although given it's NC I doubt it. When the receiver is transfered to you it is marked "other" on the 4473 form by the FFL. |
