I run a Bushnell TRS25 and love it. For the price point, if you want a MRD style, you can't go wrong with one.

I have set up the home defense pistol (AR) with a red dot with a standard BUIS rear (drilled out to 3/16") and a rail level fold down front sight on the rail. This way if you get the red dot sight on or not you have a Co- witnessed iron set for CQB. Purchased the short fold down front on amazon to fit the rail.

You will probably need a carbide drill to drill out  to open up the aperture the military BUIS (those things are HARD).

Depends on your expectations for precision. Plain ole irons will  easily do COM at 100 yards, and beyond, just as with a rifle.
