I built my first AR as a pistol. Had some issues along the way, namely the first barrel has the pins in the gas block stuck. I grinded the gas block/front sight off and looks like the pins were tapered at both ends. Ended up buying a new barrel and will eventually take the old one to a gunsmith and have him drill out the pins. Everything else went together fairly smoothly, except the bolt catch.

Build album is here.

It looks like the bolt catch broke at some point. Not sure when. My issue is this: the gap between the current bolt catch and where it's supposed to rest on the magazine looks rather large. It also looks like the magazine may be sitting up too high. I'm looking for someone a little more knowledgable to give me some advice, but after looking at pictures online it looks like my lower may not be to spec because I don't know if I can get a bolt catch large enough to span that gap.

All is not lost, you can get a 9mm bolt catch which has a much longer foot.  Of course you will have to modify (shorten it ) to fit into your problem area...not really a big deal.

Something to read...  Bolt catch mod

Thanks. I just ordered one from Brownells. It just seems to me that the magazine sits REALLY high in the lower.

Seems ok, my LMT with a Magpul mag sits almost 1/2" above the well.
