Had a quick one for the pistol gurus..does a 7.5" AR pistol upper with what I think is a pistol length gas system need a M16 type BCG to function properly? Had someone ask me this and frankly, I have no clue. I wouldn't think it'd make a difference, but you never know so. Thanks fellas

I do not think the minimal extra mass of an un-cut BCG will make a lot of difference.  I'd go with it anyway, but just because I use un-cut carriers anyway.  The buffer and spring are more likely to be factors in reliability for a pistol, based on the very short gas system.  This system provides a VERY high pressure, very high impulse gas dose to the carrier, so having a stout spring and fairly heavy buffer are logically the most likely ways to moderate that very violent gas operation.

I was kinda thinkin the same..seems it wouldn't do much unless it was in fact a FA gun. Could be wrong but that was my guess. I'm with you I figured the buffer system and some good mags would contribute more to the reliability than the carrier.

I use a m16 bcg just because I wonted the extra weight to go with my h-2 to slow it down some. But its not much. But works for me.
