Has anyone here tried this mag grip? If so how did you like it on your pistol? Trying to figure out if it'll fit my Bushtec Carbon 15 and if it's legal.

Looks like it would fit on ANY AR15 including your pistol.
BUT I'm pretty sure its NOT legal to install on a pistol.

Would this be considered a vertical grip? If so the mag should be considered so also. To me this is a close call.

3 questions, VERTICAL FORWARD GRIP! 1. is the hand positioned vertical when using the product as intended? 2. is it forward of the pistol grip? 3.is the product used for gripping and is grip used in the name of the product?

it is a cover....

I never understood the desire to add more weight to the front of the pistol, personally.  Either grab the mag well, or don't.  Do you REALLY need finger grooves?

don't do it. go read all the ATF letters and definitions posted here. basically, if you're putting something on the gun as a foregrip, it's almost always an AOW.

but you are not adding a grip....

you are adding a cover

if it was forward of the mag well then yes it is a grip but since the mag well is already there...

Does it have the word "grip" in the product description?

If so, then you'll have two grips on your gun and it's an AOW.

This is not a grip, it's adding finger grooves on an existing mag well. And if the mag and/or well can be used as a grip why would they not too be illegal when used as such? Sure any smart lawyer can make this issue seem whatever he/she would want it to and so could the ATF. Bottom line, who needs that hustle!

from the company that makes the "Never Quit Grip"
they explained it to me as this. if you cover your mag well with a piece of leather and tape it is not an added grip it is a covering. I would say that the above listed product above falls in the same logic.

now will some over zealous ATF agent try to go after you for it.  I just do not see it happening or it would have happened already.

It's not the overzealous ATF agent you really have to worry about.  He can only get search warrants and file the paperwork.  You're also right that they probably don't care and have better things to do than deal with guys who wrap stuff around the magwell.

If it ever does become an issue however then it's the members of a jury who you have to convince that it really isn't a grip.  I would think that the federal prosecutor would only have to ask the jury something like, "Why on earth would you need a cover on your magwell, especially one with finger groves, unless it really is a grip?"

Juries may be dumb sometimes, but they usually don't respond well when defendants openly treat them like they are idiots.

I would write a letter to the ATF and see what they say. Why not?

You will ALWAYS get people here that will say 'yes' and people that say 'no'. The ONLY thing that is important (to keep your ass out of trouble) is to find out what the ATF says.

MANY people here were griping about rubber caps on the back of the buffer tube. People are so scared (for some reason) to put a rubber protective cap on the back. Well as it turns out, the ATF couldn't care less about a rubber protective cap on the back of ANY buffer tube. A letter to the ATF proved this.

Point being ... reading people bicker about it never satisfied my curiosity, but everyone loves to read the ATF letters about such things.
