This thread (http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=2&f=124&t=176230) got me thinking.  What is the legality of putting a "finger saver" type device on an AR pistol.  MP5/k sometimes sport one but I don't remember seeing any on an SP89 and I don't think I've ever seen one on an AR pistol.

Thoughts?

The SP89 has one.

Well there you go.  I didn't even bother looking.  Thanks.

I like the idea would like to see it executed on the AR.

Ok!  If you can't grip it, you won't have an issue. It's a safety device, pure and simple.

I don't want to grip it and honestly I don't need it to keep my fingers from going in front of the muzzle.  I simply want a reference position for my hand.

What kind is that on yours?

These work well and pop right off if needed: Ergo Hand Stop

Just saw this in the New AR stuff forum.  Frankly I think $60 is a big much.

As long as it was less than 1.5"(?) long it shouldn't be a problem.

That's not a bad idea, I just made the habbit of holding my pistol half on the handguard and half on the magwell.
I like my fingers...

The only purpose, save the fingers you got, I feel better having than not, just one slip is all it takes. YMMMV

It originally was a ACE LTD. product that I modified slightly by removing some material.  Truth be told I can't even recall what they called it correctly, something along the lines of a barricade bridge.  At the time it sold for about $10.  In it's original state one would could use it to lean into an wall's edge to achieve really firm support while shooting.  I had used it a couple of times hunting where standing and leaning against a tree would make for a very stable shooting platform.

Cool. I thought it had a custom look to it.

Awesome.  I'm going to look into finding one of those.  That looks very nice and is exactly what I need.

Many years ago the State Police acquired some automatic H&K's , I'm not sure of the model # but they were converted to semi-automatics, and we had an incident were the tips of a few fingers were damaged when getting near the gas exhaust / suppressors.  We found a local firm that made and converted all the H&Ks so your hand could not slip forward.   On my AR pistol, solved the problem with a light and laser:
