I got a CMMG Pistol lower and it's not marked pistol...my FFL transferred it under "Other" instead of "Pistol" on the DROS. I called CMMG to confirm they have it logged as a pistol...am I good to go? Or should it have been transferred/DROS'd as a pistol? I want to make sure before puttinga pistol upper on it. Thanks.
BTW, despite hometown reading CA, I'm in AZ. |

It should not be logged as pistol, it should be logged as a stripped receiver (if that's what it was). Receivers are not pistols.
As long as it's described as "receiver", "stripped receiver" etc, on the 4473 you should be good, barring some strange CA requirement, in which case you should be asking in the CA forum or Calguns. The new 4473 has a category checkbox for "receiver" now. More reading: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=122&t=441010 |

Even though it can be marked on the 4473 as a reciever, it must be DROS'd as either a pistol or rifle. Therefore unless the AR pistol is completely built at time of DROS, you cannot just DROS a "pistol receiver" All types of hoops to jump through in CA, most other places are just good to go. |
