I apologize if this question has been covered here before.
I am building a pistol with a 7.5 inch barrel. Would an adjustable gas block be of a benefit in tuning the gun? I understand the adjustable units can only limit the available gas. |

Pukin,
I recently switched an adjustable gas block to my 10.5" pistol. I have played with them on other lengths, and even have one of the adjustable gas tubes. You are correct, if your gas port is small or optimal for your 7 inch gun, then nothing is likley to be gained. But, if you have the opportunity to (or are forced with) a gas port that is on the large side for your application, it could be useful. If I were building the gun from scratch, and could request a port on the large size, I would do so and use an adjustable block. It does give you a little flexibility in playing with brakes and buffers. The downside to the adjustable block would probably be the set screws for mounting, and possibly the gas set screw. If I were kicking in doors or doing mag dumps I think that a properly set up port by the barrel maker and a pinned block would be preferred. But if you like to tinker and fiddle, they are pretty nice. Craig |

Thanks so much, that was really helpful.
I also have some misgivings about non-pinned gas blocks after having one losen up at the range one day on a carbine length system, but I am no door-kicker so it's something to consider experimenting with on a pistol. At the moment I am still collecting parts and just trying to think ahead about what I need to buy. |
| For a range toy maby. If it is EVER used for a protection gun, classes etc avoid the adjustible. I have seen plenty of them come a little loose in 3 gun matches and make it a single shot AR(usually happens shot 3-4 on a 32 round course of fire lol). I wont even put one on my game gun let alot a protection gun. I would reather have a gun with a recoil impulse not as soft as one that dosent work |
