I'd like to add a weapon light to this:

For my rifle, I added a Surefire G2 by adding a 2" universal rail to the top of the standard handguards, with a side-offset mount for the light.  On the pistol, this places the front of the light slightly forward of the flash suppressor, and I fear it will not tolerate the muzzle flash well.  Also, it's a little difficult to reach the switch, but I could live with that.  A similar setup might work with a shorter light.

I'm considering a light designed for a pistol, but I'm not sure how they will hold up to the recoil.  Also, I'm not going to spend $100 for a light, so that's a factor.

Any suggestions?

Silly question, but can't you move those universal rails back an inch or two?

Yes, I suppose I could.

ETA: Have to get a tape switch...

Can you move the light back in the offset mount?

How about one of these....http://www.streamlight.com/product/product.aspx?pid=80#

All you need is a short rail to clamp it on and WALA you have light.

That looks good.  Do the TLR lights have a good reputation for durability?

Top of the line weapons lights. They come in at right around $100 but in my opinion well worth it. They are built like tanks

That's a pretty good deal.  I wonder about NC Star's quality though.  Has it held up well for you?  Done a lot of shooting with it?

I run a TLR2 on my entry weapon. It's been good as gold. Plenty bright and the laser is dialed in at 25 yards. I run a TLR1 on my Glock. 0 problems. Very light weight.

Funny I cut up some of the MI rails today so i could put a small piece of rail on a few rifles and ar pistols to mount trl1's on.
Works like a champ.

I'm liking the TLR2.  I'll have to save a bit for it though...

I've shot 1,000 rounds with a M3X pistol light on my 16" AR.  No issues, even after multiple bashes on door trim and range tables.

The name brand weapon lights seem to be made for the real deal.
