I finally made the jump, so here it is:

MEGA lower
Model-1 Sales 7.5" kit
YHM Light Weight Free Float 4 Rail Forearms (carbine)
Ergo RH grip

I'm not entirely happy with the M1-S kit, but I'm still waiting on resolution

I was thinking about getting one of those kits, why are you not entirely happy?

It's a series of things:

1.  When I placed the order, I asked them to upgrade to the YHM forearm.  It wasn't included in the build, but was included in the bill.  I called - I could either send the upper back (they would reimburse the shipping cost) and let them install it, or they would refund the extra.  I had them refund the extra.  (I sourced the rail elsewhere)

2.  The kit was missing the safety selector.  I called, it was put in the mail, and I had it 3 working days later.

3.  The safety detent and/or my Mega lower was out of spec, and the detent wouldn't fit into the hole.  They're sending a new one.  I was able to swap detents with my other lower, so it's ok for now.

4.  The safety is not marked on the opposite side, so from the right side you cannot tell at a glance which position it's in.  This is picky, I know.

5.  The safety is 'mushy' - It has a positive engagement on 'fire' but loose intermediate and doesn't 'click' into the 'safe' position.  I don't know if this is an issue with the detent I'm using, so I'm reserving judgment.

Are these huge deals?  Not really, and M1-S seems to be working to make it right.  Still, it feels like too many problems for a single kit.  I guess you get what you pay for.  At the end of the day I think I'll be okay with the deal, but for now I've got a sour taste.

I give you 3 woot's take care of them.
I hope all works out well with Model 1

If you are going to build any more AR stuff (pistol/rifle)
have a look at PK

Just made my 4th large purchase from them and have had nothing but the best each and every time and excellent prices, and he does customization both on the web site and if its not there call him up and he has been happy to help.

Thanks - I'd seen the idea elsewhere, so thought I'd try it.  For $15 it was worth a try.  BTW, I also think it'll fit a standard AK underfolder.....

I finally had a chance to take it to the range, and test it out today.  The first 40 rounds or so it was having problems feeding - it wasn't picking up the round from the mag about 50% of the time.  After that it seemed to loosen up a bit, and fed just fine.  Most of the shooting was off the rest.

So far I'm digging it.  I think it'll be even cooler  once I get the laser aligned, and can have a bit of fun shooting from the hip.  Heh.

What kind of mags were you using?

Fairly new (<40 rnds ea.) C-products 20-round mags with orange followers. I got these from 44mag a year or two ago.

I'm glad its working out okay.  I too have a Model 1 pistol kit, but on a Superior Arms lower.  Everything seemed to fit good, but I did do some filing on the safety...fit...re-fit...file...fit....file ...fit...you get the idea.  Iy snaps back and forth just fine.  This was my first build with guidance of a co-worker (this goes here....put that there....etc.)
