Is it practical to " Build a Pistol" or just brake down and buy one?
If the vote is to Build , Who and where to go for parts.

Depends on what you want.  If you find a pistol pre-made that you want, go for it.  If not, then you build and that way you can build it the way you want it.
Any virgin lower.
Standard LPK.
ACE pistol kit (buffer tube, cover, and tube lock/sling swivel)
DPMS Kitty Kat upper (they use to only sell this upper to class 3 dealers, unsure if they have changed their policy now).
CMMG upper-pretty much the same as the Kitty Kat but better.
Most makers now offer some sort of pistol upper.  Check with Model 1, Rock River, Bushmaster, there are a ton of people making them so you should find something you want.

You may not save a dime by building your own, but you know what's in it.

If you buy pre-assembled its really just a matter of shopping around for what you want it to come with.

I've seen folk build pistols for about $700, and I've seen Mfg'd pistols sell for about $900.

If you shop around for parts, I'm sure you can get one as close to 'perfect' as you want for somewhere around 6-800.

Built my OLY K23p out of parts from at the gun show. Complete build including a virgin receiver was $575, after 8.8% sales tax. I got a smoking deal.
