| I've decided to build a Precision 308 upper. So let's hear what the hive thinks about which direction to go. The caliber is 308 and money is no object however must be half MOA or better. Where does everybody start |

No Budget and you want a complete AR-10 in .308 Start here and add a PRS stock and good bi-pod with great glass. You also need to learn how to load your own ammo or stick with quality match ammo. Final question do you honestly think your good enough to shoot sub 1/2 MOA?

I think I might be tempted to try a side charger upper to attach that Krieger, or otherwise, barrel. This would allow one to develop and load .308 ammo to the optimum length to the lands for best accuracy rather than limited by the magazine. I'm not as familiar with this bullet OAL method in the .308 as I am with .223 or some other calibers, but I'd guess you get the best accuracy with .308 for the same reasons. We are talking precision accuracy here.
The nice thing about a side charger is that you can go back and forth with bullet OAL for best accuracy and then load factory or your own ammo that fits the magazine. You load single shot with the optimum bullet OAL with an adjustable gas block turned off, and it performs much like a bolt rifle. When using an AR platform in this manner, I think the side charger is more convenient. Just a thought. Additionally, if I were building a precision AR10, I think I'd choose another caliber like 6.5C, .260, etc. And yes, there are some decent off-the-shelf AR10's that qualify somewhat as a precision rifle. An Armalite Super SASS is one, and there are some others. |
