So I remember seeing tales of this great cartridge that was up and coming. Ballistics looked great, but last I remember it had a few bugs that needed working out.

Fast forward a few years I don't hear much about it. Did the founding company fold, or was it to good to be true? What happened?

Bad management.  Owner sold stock off, fulfilling few if any orders, then the new owners tried selling the product and changed the name to Atlas and then, IIRC, the original owner got his panties in a twist and sued over some BS and things spiraled downward from there.  I'm not sure if the new owner is still trying to make a go of the round or not.  Culpepper (originator) was the roungs biggest downfall due to his business practices.
Plus, the round could not deliver it's claimed stats at safe pressures in the AR platform and .308 based rounds do not feed well from standard unmodified GI type mags..

If you want an AR in .375, look at the .375 SOCOM by TROMIX.  Standard GI mags, Lancers are my favorite, based on .458 SOCOM brass, factory loads available from SBR, and HONESTLY delivers 2400 fps with a 200 gr bullet and 2100 fps with a 235 gr bullet, all at 36000 psi which lets brass last forever and from an 18" barrel.  Dies can be purchased from TROMIX and CH-4D.  They can also be ordered from Hornady on a custom basis.  I have Hornady dies.
Bullets suitable are available from Sierra, Maker, Vollmer, and just about any bullet made for the .375 Winchester, .38-55 WCF, or .375 JDJ.  Do not use bullets designed for .375 H&H or bigger rounds if you want expansion, which generally means bullets 250 gr. or more will not expand.
However, there are more than a few bullets from 175-235 gr that work beautifully in the .375S.
Speer 235 gr. bullets have proven problematic in regards to accuracy for several of us.  Likely the jacket is too thin for use in an autoloader.
The bullets I shoot mostly are Vollmer.  He has them in 200 and 220 gr, flat point and semi spitzer, working on 235 gr. semi spitzer and 175 and 250s are on the drawing board, plus, they are pretty cheap so you don't go broke shooting them.

Kind what I figured happened, but didn't know for sure. The early ballistics data I saw seemed to good.

So basically the 375 socom does what the Reaper claimed to do.

Pretty much, and at pressures that won't wreck your AR over the long haul or wear out your brass.

All you need is a barrel, SOCOM bolt, and an enlarged ejection port.  Standard mags, buffer, and buffer spring, either rifle or CAR, just like the .458 SOCOM.
There is a sub-forum about the .375 SOCOM on the .458 SOCOM Forums and lots of load data in the Load Data section.

The little I know is that there was some issues with vendors trying to sell the cartridge as their own which is where the lawsuits came from. They were sending out specs and cartridges to have barrels and extensions made and things started to go south.

Let's hope it dies deader than a hammer. Watching that circus/sham unfold was like watching The Sting.  I know of several vendors that were bilked out of their products. Fraud charges filed and shady business practices exposed and well documented across the 'net.

Anyone ever get a judgement against him in court?

I have not heard of any judgements being rendered.  The people I know locally have not pursued it in court though nationwide there is a pretty good knowledge base on the scum now industry wide. The last rumor I've heard was that he was somewhere in the SE cost peddling rifle scopes.

I'm still not sure why the US Postal Service didn't go after hum for mail fraud but that maybe one of those things that happen that we never hear about. If I wasn't retired and getting on in that area I would have had my friends in other agencies look into him as he did harm some fellows I know.

Yikes sounds like the Reaper died a slow painful death. It sounded like a nice concept.

Not so snow and there were some well respected people on the net that ended up doing a backward crawl over it once it was pointed out to them that they were giving tacit support of a bald faced shyster.
