Thinking of getting a .308 Ar15, Having a problem deciding which one. What would be a good starter one for around $1500?

AR10 is what you are referring to, the daddy of the AR15 from 1955.  (First AR15 was made in 1957).

Anyway, I would look at the Savage MSR-10 if you can find one.

They are new, small frame, very well thought-out.

ArmaLite DEF-10 is another great option, probably the large frame to beat in terms of value and price point.

Another would be the DPMS GII.

You should be able to get a DPMS GII and still have a couple hundo left over for a trigger, mags, ammo, adj gas block, handguard, etc.

My understanding is the Savage isnt out yet.  The small-frame 308's are newer tech, DPMS has worked out their bugs in the 2 years since release.  I generally avoid the first run of new car and gun designs, since they all seem to come off the assembly line with at least a few small issues.  Have you seen anything to indicate this will not be the case with the Savage MSR-10?

My vote is the S&W M&P-10. MSRP as per S&W is $1610, but I have seen them for less. I think I paid around $1200 put the door a few years back for mine.
