Since 5.56 mags seem to have feed issues with 6.8SPC, can you simply swap followers in standard USGI mags to fix the problem or do dedicated 6.8SPC mags have different curves/feed lip dimensions?  And if follower swaps are possible, will it work with USGI 20rd mags?

Just acquired my first 6.8SPC upper and thought I'd ask before I started shopping for mags.  This will be only used for hunting and I will probably not load more than 5 rounds at any given time.

Thanks for any advice.

There is more difference between a 5.56 and a 6.8 mag than follower.  The side ribs and feed lips are also different.  I have tried many combinations of tricks to try and get Lancer clear 5.56 mags to work with some of my 6.8 wildcats but always have to return to using 6.8 mags.  The 6.8 mags I prefer are PRI 20R (sized, not capacity) even though they are ungodly expensive.

First let me say I am in no way an expert on the 6.8 system.

However, my kid just bought a 6.8 upper from Bison Arms I believe, and he also ordered 3 5 round magazines from magpul.
He told me the measurement between the feed lips was slightly different than the 5.56 magazines.

That is all I know.
The second day out with it following his initial zero at 100 and 200 yards, he shot a big 5x5 Whitetail in South Dakota at 275 yards, using a 120 grain SP.
So, it does work.
I may be upgrading next year to the 6.8 SPC myself for Mule deer here in Idaho.

Thank you for the info.  I was hoping this was not the case, but I guess I'll bite the bullet and order a 6.8 specific five-round mag.  The upper came with two 25rd mags (Stag Arms), but they are a bit unwieldy for hunting.

If you reload, the PRI magazines allow you to load slightly longer OAL which improves accuracy.

You will be happier later if you bite the bullet and buy 6.8 Specfic mags now. Your welcome!
Yes..the best out of the pkg mag is PRI. However... A coule others have crept into the game since I jumped into 6.8. And there may another  Mag just as good. Never any issues with PRI that I have. A bit Tight in the mag well but I don't care... Hunting, not tactical.. Enjoy

That's good to know.  I reload for 6.5x55, .308 and 45/70.  I'm going to wait and see how I like the 6.8 before I invest in a set of dies.  I currently have a box of SSA 115gr OTM and two boxes of Hornady 110gr VMax to get started.  (Ended up with the ammo in a trade several years ago and just got around to finding an upper.)
