Was just touring a couple of gun shops the other day, not really looking for anything special when I came across a Bushmaster XM10 MOE for what I thought was a fairly good price ($999.99). I decided to purchase said carbine for the hell of it, but I really don't know that much about them. Tried to find a professional review of the carbine on YouTube or a article from one of the numerous gun gurus, but none was found.
Can any of you help either by pointing me to a professional review or your own experience with the carbine? Thanks! |
| And just to clarify. When Remington/Bushmaster/DPMS all consolidated under Cerebus, they consolidated manufacturing. The old Bushmaster plant was sold off and became Windham. DPMS began making all the AR rifles for all 3 companies. Therefore the 308 you bought is a DPMS gen 1 gun. Hope this helps. You can look up vids of comparable models to see what you have there. |

Good score IMHO. I like my gen1 Lite Hunter. |

There are a few differences between the DPMS Gen 1 and the Bushmaster.
Bushmasters have chrome lined barrels and maybe 4150 steel instead of DPMS non-chrome lined and perhaps 4140 steel. Bushmasters have a normal AR15-style trigger guard, whereas the DPMS has a flat integral trigger guard. For 2016, Bushmaster is out of the .308 AR game, so OP, your new purchase is already a collector item. Nice score. |

Didn't know BM dropped the 308 but I bet they are only dropping it until their G2 based model is up and running... |

I would like some form of small frame .308 to replace the Bushy Gen 1 DPMS-style I have now.
A Bushmaster G2 (if & when available) or a Mega would be my top choices. The Mega has ambi controls. I put a mid-length MOE handguard on it, one of those super hard to find YHM front sights that fits around the shaved gas block, a DPMS chrome bolt carrier, Raptor charging handle, Troy rear sight, switched to a mil-spec buffer tube with heavy spring and heavy buffer. It has a Super Sniper 1-6x24 HD mil-mil scope. I like the set-up, but it could lose a pound or two. |

I've got an MOE and really like it. I had ADCO shave the barrel to light weight under the hand guards, added a Troy FF rail, heavy buffer, and threw a Leupold VXR Patrol on it. It shoots outstanding for a basic barreled 16" .308.
Mines used as a brush gun for hogs. Handy and stomps just about anything here in Florida when trampling through palmetto groves. |

Good bargain 308 AR. Mine is technically the orc model and it only requires the few tweaks others mentioned to get running correctly. I used an AR10 receiver extension, mgi heavy buffer, and Tubb's spring. An H3 and any decent upgrade spring (Sprinco orange, Wolff, etc.) would probably do the trick. You could stick with the carbine buffer tube and get a kak buffer.
I also changed the furniture, added a gunfighter4, LaRue MBT, 2-10 optic, and VCAS sling but those things aren't necessary so do the top first.
