I have a Colt AR 901 that I want to put a 20" stainless barrel on.  My first thought was to convert it to a 6.5 CM but the upper won't hold a standard length BCG.  The BCG in this gun is shorter and designed specifically for this rifle.  My question:  can I put a different .308 barrel on it?  I'm trying to make it more accurate for long range target shooting and hunting.

There is no need to mess with the BCG when going from .308 to 6.5CM unless the firing pin aperture is too large.

Either way, they both use a .473" case head.

Colt hasn't supported the 901 with after-market options, to include the armorer's wrench, so it's a difficult gun to work on without that support.

They would sell these things like crazy of they supported it, or even promoted it.  It's insane really from a marketing perspective.

Thanks for the reply.  I searched and couldn't find much about the lack of a wrench.  I guess this gives me an excuse to build a AR-10.
