Undecided about what to build with a spare AERO receiver set I have. All set on 5.56, 7.62x51 and currently building a 300 aac SBR. I was thinking of building a 16" 300 AAC with the spare set but changed my mind and was looking into the large bore options. After reading up on them I decided to look at 458 socom parts on Tromix's website. That's when I found the 375 socom. Anyone care to offer your thoughts on it? Anyone have one and care to comment?  I did a search on this forum and it keeps coming up with "no results".

That looks like a pretty good cartridge. You should be a reloader tho.

Pretty sure your ejection port will need to be opened up too.

I have 2-458SOCOMS and am now thinking hard on the 375.  The extra range makes very appealing..  Seen some great reviews and a couple videos on the 458 forums.  Go to the above link, there is a bunch of info there.

If you want to sign up for the forum follow the instructions in the first thread.  IF you have problems let me know here and I will get it taken care of.

Reloading definitely gives you more options, but SBR Ammuntion and Strike Force Ammuntion both have several different factory loadings in .375 SOCOM.

Thanks guys for the info and links. I am intrigued by both. Always been a big bore fan so I definitely will be building one of these. Decisions decisions..........

Thanks Tony. I do reload so no issues there. As soon as I make up my mind on what one I want I'll be ordering a barrel, bolt and die set from you!

Tony

I saw a booth at SHOT last week with factory ammunition on their table for .375 SOCOM. That bad boy is FAT.  I was in a hurry, and wanted to stop and chat, but had a meeting to go to and other commitments all over the show.

Just looking at what .375 SOCOM ballistics are.  Any charts or just realistic mv's and bullet weights/BC's?

I have an 18 inch and TROMIX is getting me a 24 inch ready.  Quit waiting, get one now!  I have 7 .458 SOCOMs and find the .375 to be even even more versatile except for when it comes to shooting heavies, then the .458 is the clear winner.  With bullets in the 235 gr. and below range, the .375 is an easy 300 yard performer without having to hold off of a deer sized animal.

While the .458 does not really gain anything (velocity) with barrels longer than 16 inches, I am anxious to see what the .375 does.  QL says I'll gain considerable fps, but QL says that for the .458 too and it's not so.   If it doesn't work, it might just get a bob-job.  Win-win.

Appears to be another nice caliber...what would be even nicer is to have the 375 and 458 SAAMI approved.

I'm having a tough time deciding on what one to go with. I'm going to be buying the barrel and bolt sometime this month (tax refund)
but seem to change my mind daily on what one to go with.

I don't really understand why some get all hung up on SAAMI acceptance.  Safe data is out there and lots of it.  How do we know it is safe?  I have no doubt that with tens of thousands of rounds shot using the data put out there and there has not been one case of any kind of failure by ANYONE FOLLOWING the data, that the data is good.  And there is factory ammo out there, even for the .375, and SAAMI acceptance would not change anything other than MAYBE more data available.  I can only speak for myself but I do not see SAAMI acceptance as anything to write home about.  Maybe it is the decades old wildcatter in me but anymore, I could not care less if they ever get SAAMI approved.  I know the data is safe.

Big-Bore,
I've been over on the 458 forum trying to learn as much as I can and I see you post there often. I was browsing through the load data pages and it seems I'm missing something. Most posts must have some sort of attachment to open to view the data? I only found a few posts were data was visible, posted like a picture. I see some posts with the paperclip icon but it does not work for me. I thought maybe I need to register and as a member the info would be available but I am unable to register. It keeps saying "an error has occurred- registration is currently disabled". I've been trying since last week and it still does not work. Any info on that?
Thanks.

I am not sure why you cannot see the data.  Go to the very top thread and the very top post ( this one ) in the registration thread and send Tony M an email with your registration information and they will set you up an accout.  Auto-registration is disabled but not registration in general.  In the load data section there is all kinds of info, both spread-sheets and img listings for the .458S and .375S.

The only thing I see in the posts are the text from the poster with the exception of a few picture type tables. I'll try and get registered and see if that helps.
Thanks for the reply!
