Thinking about picking up a DPMS LR 308 for my son for Christmas. Decent price $750? Don't have much experience with DPMS
I realize this model is an entry level AR-10, and should probably switch out the trigger mech. Any other thoughts from you guys Thanks Loaded247 |
| I've got a couple alum gas blocks on prairie dog rifles just like the one in your post with several thousand rounds through each and they are just as dirty, but why the need to replace? The leakage may be due to the alum having a different expansion rate than the barrel steel? |

The leakage may be due to the alum having a different expansion rate than the barrel steel? Yes, coefficient of thermal expansion is different between steel and aluminum. In .223, I saw a DPMS Lo-pro Classic go a for a few thousand rounds before the gas block eroded. The one in the picture above was on a .308, and eroded within a few hundred rounds, with some of that suppressed. Just use steel and don't look back. These 6061 aluminum gas blocks are great for tool time and tool head life on machines, but bad for longevity. For lower volume plinking or P-dog blasting, you'll be able to get away with them for much longer, maybe never have an issue like I've seen with multiple guns that start short-stroking once they lose enough pressure from the gas system. |

They're good to go. http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn86/mechanicus1/IMG_3335_zpsdmjxk9jf.jpg clean no-nonsense weapon. is that an older 3g1? |
| I have a DPMS Oracle (that's how it started out). The upper, lower, and barrel are all stock and it shoot's 1/2 MOA at 100 yards with factory 168gr ammo. I've had groups of 3 shots just touching each other when I do what I should. But for me that's the exception not the usual. I can still get 3-5 shots into less than 1/2 MOA at 100 yards, if I really concentrate on my technique!!! They're GTG as far as I'm concerned!! |
