I'm a little rusty guys. Will this kit fit on my DPMS G2? I know that the tube on it currently is commercial spec, so I can't just buy a BCM stock. I don't remember if the tube is the same length as an AR15 tube, but I think it is.
BCM Stock Kit Also, here's a Maine moose I downed with the G2 earlier this week.

Nice moose man! Would you mind sharing what ammo and bullet weight/type you used along with the distance of the shot? I've got an FN FAL (para type) that Id like to use for hunting up here, but the weight of the rifle is horendous and the accuracy is only so so....probably "good enough", but who is willing to settle for good enough?
Thanks! |

Nicely done, my G2 Hunter took a deer last year, was looking forward to using it on an elk this year but did not get a tag this year. I too would like to know what ammo you used. I certainly don't claim to be a hunting expert, and my choice of bullet was probably not the greatest. It worked out ok in the end. Hornady 150 SST, ended up being a standing offhand shot from about 75 yards because I intercepted the moose in a chopping and there were no trees nearby, and too much brush/tall grass on the ground to get low. I shot 4 times, as I wasn't seeing much effect on target, but an observer said it hunched up on the first shot. It was facing me, turned slightly to its left. We didn't do a good analysis of where the shots ended up because we quartered it in place. It went about 25 feet and laid down. Then we went to investigate and it jumped up and went another 50 yards and fell down again, where it died. Basically I kept shooting because I didn't want it to get very far away. Side note, I won't be shooting without hearing protection anymore with that brake...my ears are still ringing. I have a flash hider in the mail, and I'm investigating electronic ear plugs for hunting. |

Congrats on the kill. I'm not expecting to see a killable elk this year, but this will be the GII's second year going.
Side note, I won't be shooting without hearing protection anymore with that brake...my ears are still ringing. I have a flash hider in the mail, and I'm investigating electronic ear plugs for hunting. If you decide to go with the electronic plugs, let me know what you think. Can't say I've used them, but with muffs or plugs, they transmit too much noise through/from my body, which makes it impossible to hear quieter noises as well as I can without protection. I got an STD http://simplethreadeddevices.com/ for this reason alone. I'm not going to risk hearing damage just to test how effective it is, but it's got to be better than something that directs muzzleblast to the sides. |

Quoted: Yes, I know what you mean. Walking with hearing protection is slightly awkward. I think I will try the Peltor TEP-100's though. Shot a deer last year from a stand with muffs but walking through the woods is another matter. Time to order a surpressor, I got sick of my ears ringing and finally ordered one, always carried muffs but never remembered to put them on. Did your shots pass through the moose? The SST is a good expanding round and obviously did it's job but you may want to take a look at the solid copper rounds like the TSX or GMX, they penetrate deep which is good for large critters. |

Tagged to hear what was used. Would think at least a 180 grain bullet if not heavier. Also, how many shots did it take to knock it down? 175gr is almost hitting the ceiling for Wear & Tear in .308 in a gasser. Best to go with a 168 - 175gr BARNES TTSX than hunting with a heavier pill. You did A-OK, OP. And C_J nailed it. Don't sweat it and go BARNES TTSX or 458 SOCOM next time. |

Yes but use the buffer and spring from the G2. This, and major congrats on Bullwinkle! You will suffer permanent hearing loss in the high freq range with a lot of muzzle brakes like that. Ask me how I know. I've had hearing loss from them when others were shooting them, even with plugs in. If I were hunting moose with the .308, I would just go 150gr GMX or a Barnes 130 or 150gr TTSX. One thing you want to do when downing an animal like that is to keenly watch where it lays down, then wait at least 30-45 minutes observing it if you got a good hit. Some will wait hours even. They bed down to rest and recover, and will spook like yours did if approached too soon. If they don't feel any pressure or hear anymore threat, they'll usually just lay there as long as possible as their body repairs what it can, but will bleed out if you have a good vital shot. They are in superb physical shape with all the walking and running they do out in the wild, with no couch, beer, or chips to suck down. When in that level of shape, healing is much more rapid, which is why you will often encounter animals that have been shot multiple times even, and they're still trucking along like it's cool. |

I have one, but it was legalized in Maine 2 days after this hunt. Wouldn't have mattered though as there is a permit process that has to be satisfied first. I'm dumping the brake and pushing ahead for the permit for the future. |
