First time even hearing of it this morning, a 16" AR-15 chambered in 5.7x28, with "standard" magazines holding 50 rounds!? Can anyone tell me more about these, info seems to be very spotty, hell im just hearing of them, and only due to noticing a video on YouTube. Sounds like it would be a fun woods gun vs .22lr mostly because I'm guessing it would be more reliable?

It users PS90 mags, not ar15 mags. Rounds drop down through the mag well, can use a gutted mag to catch the brass.

They seem pretty reliable, but are mostly proprietary. I don't think there are any handguards besides the one included, i believe it takes a special bolt as well. I like the idea of it, would make an awesome SBR. i just got turned away from the proprietary parts

Only so much can be done with standard M16/AR15 parts though, In order to have some chamberings and or features in an AR like platform, some things are just going to have to be unique. I'm interested though, a cartridge that's sort of like a .22mag on steroids and center fire in a light weight carbine that can hold 50 cartridges, sounds like a sweet "just walking around in the woods" gun. 14.5" barrel w/suppressor would be even better. But suppressors are the cost of plenty of firearms them self's, which makes them hard to justify to me. Maybe one day in the future when I have more disposable income.

As the 5.7 upper is direct blow back.

It gets dirty but is easier to clean than a 5.56 upper. The cases will expand under pressure on extraction.

The cases can still be reloaded, but do not learn to reload with this caliber. It has little tolerance for error.

I've also read a few threads about cases getting dented in the AR57. Only reliability complaints I've seen is from some aftermarket magazines, otherwise it seems to be a pretty reliable platform. Local shop had one and was really tempted even though I don't own a PS90. But ammo is definitely not a common caliber and seems to run about 60 cents/round, for that I can find a really good 5.56 round.

From a practical point of view a Magpul 50 round drum can do what the AR57 does, but I still would like to add an AR57 to my collection one day.
