I posted these questions in the build it yourself forum but have not gotten any traction there.... was hoping someone here might have some insight to share:

I am building a 6.5 upper around a 20" BHW barrel (purchased from SSA w/ free upper)

1) Gas block- adjustable or no?  I would like to run a can down the road but thats not in the cards for at least a year

2) The lower I am using has a JP Low Mass Buffer and Spring installed, could this present problems with the Grendel?

3) Brake:  I am torn between these two:
1) PF LMD
2) PA M11

I went non-adjustable and it works great.  It depends on what size they drill your gas port.

I opted for a JP SCS due to my strong dislike for the spring sound.

For a brake I went for a KAW Valley Linear Comp for the price and as a favor to fellow range members.  It tames muzzle rise and makes the recoil more straight back.  I shot about 100 rounds my first outing and the recoil is a smooth push for me.

My Grendel is running a 20" barrel. I have nothing more than a standard A2 on it. The recoil and muzzle rise on the Grendel are minimal.

I am running a standard low profile Vltor gas block (non adjustable) under the Seekins rail. I have not run into any issues yet.

Apologies, I cant comment on your buffer/spring question(s). I have run a Magpul ACS and ACS-L with an ST-T2 buffer and standard spring. Never had an issue. Right now there is a UBR on it with an ST-T2 buffer and flat wire spring. Again, no issues. Recoil is light. My buddy shot the rifle and after grinning from ear to ear, he remarked on how tame the rifle actually is.

You are going to like the Grendel.

ETA: I am running an M16 carrier with an AA bolt.

A 20" barrel really doesn't need a adjustable gas block. However I would consider going with the full mass bolt from JP.

I'd go with an adjustable gas block, it'll help with the low mass system and you'll want one when you shoot suppressed.

Port pressure is lower on a RLGS, so there will be less benefit from adjustable gas there, if any.

Thanks guys.  I think I am going to go with a regular block for now. Any input on the brakes I mentioned?

Pat Kelley, Vuurwapen Blog, and The Firearms Blog have done some excellent testing on muzzle brakes and compensators.

I like Pat Kelley's test approach the most, since he used a laser to imprint the POA on targets under recoil.

What are You Compensating For?

Patrick Kelley Test 2009

He has since done a 3rd test where the Seekins ATC came out ahead.

As far as 6.5 Grendel's go, the Precision Firearms Muzzle Leveling Device finished 3rd in this test:  AR-15 Muzzle Brake Shootout

Thanks for the links... helpful info.  I went with the PF MLD.  Awaiting its arrival so I can get to the range.  Its the only component I am missing.  I went with a troy non adjustable gas block and ALG handguard with a magpul mlok bipod adapter.  Its pictured with my Vortex PST 6-24 and Harris bipod.

That is nice. I suspect it will be a great shooter for you.

She is a beautiful rifle. Do you have a name for her yet? I hope she is a shooter.
I am in the middle of a 6.5Grendel / 264LBC build right now as well. Or should I say,
the beginning as I only have the upper and lower receivers with a spikes
tactical LPK. I also got lucky and scored a old used mil-surplus A2 buttstock  without a
buttplate on it, that still has the armory rack numbers stenciled on.
I am sure I missed it in the thread some where, but what barrel length did you go with?

Good luck with your build.  Stock sounds cool.  No name yet...

Barrel is a 20"

What is your thoughts on the ALG rail.  Ive read good and bad on them. They look decent and the price is nice on them

I like the rail.  Its super light weight has nice texture to it. However the slots for the rail segments are positioned unconventionally. the 12 and 6 o'clock slots are fine but the other slots are at around 1:30 and 4:30,   so if you plan on running accessories at 9 and/or 3 o'clock as you can on most rails this will present a problem.   I am not going to be adding anything else to it.  Just the bipod at 6 so its a non issue for me.
