I am curious about the MI hand-guard. once you have some trigger time would you post up how it holds up. I have the G2 SASS and I am thinking using it. I like the handguard. I ask because Just before I sold my LR 308 SASS I had put a Samson Evo on it and the new owner who is a friend is having trouble with it "Shucking" or moving forward when firing. Any sign of that with the MI? |

Any sign of that with the MI? No but I always bridge the receiver and handguard with a 1/2 optic riser. Adds a lot of stability and allows me to get the optic forward for proper eye relief. |

| I wondered the same thing. With 10 elk last year, I'm guessing it's worked out just fine. Shot rifle today. 20 knot winds kept blowing targets away. I did manage to adjust gas block. Magpul mags need some more adjustment to work. Got the scope dialed in at 50 yards, cut nice clover leaf groups. Pleasantly surprised how soft it shoots. Hope to stretch it out some next week. |

Very nice!! I like it, great looking setup and the color really looks awesome!
I've got AR's in .22LR, 5.56, .264LBC and .50 Beowulf so I obviously need a .308 caliber AR. Can't afford one right now so it gives me plenty of time to compare guns and admire the sweet guns you guys get. Looks like the DPMS Gen II is the big dog due to it's new smaller and lighter design. While I would kill (figure of speech) for a LaRue PredatOBR 7.62, reality says such a sweet gun is not in my financial future and Mark LaRue is probably not wrapping one up for my birthday this year lol. The DPMS Gen II looks like it'll be my choice, should I ever be able to afford even one of those. |

Quoted: Do you have much wobble at the front pivot pin and at the rear take down pin? Just asking because it seems every G2 has poor QC. Mine doesn't. Very well made for a mass produced AR. ETA: 1200 flawless rounds through it so far. 1100 rounds surplus ball. 100 rounds Wolf steel case. |
| The front wobbles and the rear is super tight. Go figure. Also noticed signs of oversized firing pin hole in bolt face. At first glance, you would assume it is over gassed. With adjustable gas block, I'm only running enough gas to allow the bolt to lock back on empty mag. Tuned it to some 168gr bullets it seemed to have a preference for. Had a blast shooting 9" flashers at 325 yds Friday. I still giggle watching the difference on reactive steel between the .223 and the .308. I am amazed how light recoil is for a rifle only 10 ounces heavier than my .223. It has been a joy to shoot so far. |

My GII Lite Hunter is actually tight enough that it is slightly difficult to assemble. Saying every GII has QC issues is stretching things more than just a little. I use a polymer punch to get the rear pin moving, then use a small rubber hammer to tap (not hammer) the pin back in. So I'd say its pretty tight. My ejection port cover usually stays closed unless a fired case is coming out. Might bother some but I don't mind. Its dry up in So. Dak and the wind always is blowing. Actually I view it as a benefit. There's already thousands of Gen2 rifles in use, so yeah, it's H-U-G-E stretch to claim they're all having problems. Issues with Pmags don't count as a rifle problem. Until the latest 308 Pmag gets squared away, use a quality mag like DPMS or my favorite, the IMI. |
|
The Gen 3 PMag is a problem for my rifle. However, it is a problem that took me about 20 minutes or so to remedy for 4 of them. I went ahead and bought PMags because I saw that they were easily modified, and because I was already buying other Magpul products from a company that did not stock the IMI magazines. At some point I will probably get some IMI magazines.
I'm going to shoot my rifle today, with some mil spec Winchester. I'm not expecting any spectacular results, as my eyes are no longer good enough to shoot iron sights for tight groups. I'm only concerned at this point about getting it on paper and verifying reliable function. An optic is a ways out for me at this point. |
| My G2 Hunter Lite upper and lower has a sloppy fit. I bought it in January from Buds. The best 3-shot group it fired was around 3" out of over 200 rounds and that was trying multiple loads. Sent it back to Ahlman's and they re-barreled it. Just got it back last week. First 4 groups weren't much better, but I cleaned it and went back had a couple 3-shot groups around 1". They didn't do anything to resolve the sloppy fit between upper and lower. If you install a JP tensioning pin to tighten the fit, the bolt will not lock back as it binds in the buffer tube. So I stuck an accuwedge in it and at least it doesn't rattle but you can still wiggle pretty easily. Front and back is loose. So not all of them are perfect. |
