A little background:  I owned a LMT MWS for several years and enjoyed shooting it.   Times changed, kids were born, and I ended up selling it for financial reasons.  Fast forward a couple years and I'm ready to get back into the game.  I enjoy building my own AR-15's and would like to build my own 308 this time around.  I've lurked around the AR Variants thread and feel like I've done my homework as far as research.  I'm excited to get started.

This build could take several months and even up to a year if you include the optic.   I'm not in a position where I can rush out and buy everything all at once.  But due to the amount of "spare" AR-15 parts I've got laying around, I'm a little bit ahead of the curve.

Here is what I kept from my MWS and/or have laying around: (Sorry for the crappy pics)

Geissele SD-C trigger
Battle Arms Development Safety Selector
Slash's CAR 10 XH Buffer
KAC Buffer Tube
Magpul ACS Stock
Magpul MIAD Grip
AAC 762-SD Suppressor

As you can see, some of the parts are going to have to be refinished.  I have the ability to Cerakote, and plan to do so at least to the grip and stock.  I have ordered my first additional parts in the form of an Aero Precision M5 matched lower and upper set.  They have shipped and should be here early next week. I will probably order the M5 LPK next and get the stock and grip refinished.  At that point the lower should be complete and I can shift my focus to building the upper.

I invite you all to follow along with this build.  I'm sure I will have some additional questions, and feel free to offer any input you may have.  Should be a fun project.

What do you want it to look like?  What will it be for?  Heavy metal blaster for 3-gun?  Hunter? Intermediate precision semi auto?

Have you seen the issues with the BCM Gunfighter in the Aero M5 uppers, and do you have a plan to work around this charge handle option?

My MWS was set up to shoot out to 800 yds.  I'll expect the same out of this build.  My two complaints with the MWS were it's weight and the fact that it was very over-gassed, especially when suppressed.  I think this build can successfully address both of those issues.  I'm aware of the issues with the BCM charging handle.  It appears it can modified to fit should I choose to use that handle.  Does anyone know if there are any fit issues with the Raptor charging handle and the M5?

Upper & lower are in.  Still at FFL so I don't have my hands on them yet.

Update:  I've made quite a bit more progress accumulating parts than I thought I would in this amount of time.  I've received my matched set from Aero, and have received an Aero LPK, BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle & SLR Sentry 7 Gas Block.  I found a BHW 16" Barrel on the EE and am awaiting it's arrival.  I also ordered an Aero BCG with FA serrations, but it is back ordered.  I decided against using the ACS Stock and went ahead and ordered a STR stock.

I had some concerns about the BCM charging handle fitting the Aero upper & lower.  I test fit it and there doesn't seem to be any hang up.
