Does anyone have any experience with this device? I recently purchased my first AR. A DPMS G2 hunter. First things I did were adding a UBR and heavy carbine buffer and had the barrel cut down to 16" and threaded 5/8 24, by a friend who did a fantastic job. I have recently been looking at muzzle breaks to further tame recoil. I had my heart set on the JP Benny Cooley, but recently found an add on AL for a LNIB QDC MAMS FOR $300. I know they are $400 originally and apparently its an amazing brake/flash suppressor/concussion suppressor, should I splurge? Thanks Hive!!! I have been a long time lurker, and look forward to participating in discussions now that I actually own an AR!

Welcome aboard. I definitely wouldn't put the Cooley on a 16" barrel.  Those things are very effective brakes, but they are quite concussive, even on a 22" barrel.  On a 16", it wouldn't be fun at all I think.

Did you look at the gas port diameter on the GII hunter, 20" RLGS?  IS the gas block steel or aluminum?

I would probably get the MAMS, since they are a lot more than that from what I remember.

There is a co that makes something similar to a MAMS but its about half the cost, let me see if I can dig up a link the name escapes me right now.

Found two, I havent used these and if I had to bet I would say that the KAC unit would be more effective, how much so I have no idea. Food for thought.

No I have not. It is RLGS and I believe the gas block is steel. It cycles flawlessly with the barrel cut down and heavy buffer. Only thing I will change is the UBR as its heavy as hell, just looks sooo sweet. Probably will switch it out for a CTR.

My buddy has a Benny Cooley on his 16" bushmaster 308 and as the shooter its just loud, but if you are anywhere even close the concussion is incredible. Thats my main reason for liking the MAMS. Apparently its just as effective as any brake, yet has no added concussion, and has flash hiding capabilities as well.

Thanks. The precision armament looks interesting, but Im not sure it can match the KAC in the other features besides recoil management. Plus the KAC just looks cool as hell. It is alot of money though for a muzzle device. The more I look at the youtube vid of a guy rapid firing a 308 like a 556 the more I want it.

I would love to own an ECC but its just not in the budget for this year, thats why I decided to buy the hunter model and chop it down. Should be functionally very similar to the SR25 in that respect with the MAMS. I already sent the guy an email saying Im interested so we will see...

I have a MAMS on my 16" .308. I'd say it feels comparable to shooting 7.62 x 39.

What kind of gas system? I suppose the recoil reduction itself isn't exactly what Im looking for as my gun is quite manageable, I would compare its impulse to that of my SGL-21 which has the 74 style brake on it. Muzzle stability is a better term for what I am looking for, I guess what i want is the muzzle to stay straight for follow up shots. Have you used a brake on your gun before, is it better or worst with the MAMS in that respect? Any report on concussion as well. Thanks

Well I just took the plunge The guy responded and said it was still available, so I said what the heck, and went off for a FTF as he was only 15 mins away... If I dont like it I can still probably recover all my funds back due to getting it at a great price. it has been installed on the guys .300BO but was never used, so thats a real plus, also came with everything from the factory so Im pretty happy, Just gotta go hit the range this week and put some rounds down range.

Rifle length. It was a 20" barrel that was cut down.

Interesting. Im surprised you feel it shoots like an AK. I talked my girl into taking a range trip as I couldn't wait and we just got home. I put 75 rounds through the rifle with the MAMS, all I can say is WOW...It feels like a 5.56 rifle to me. Very tame and the muzzle doesn't move at all. Muzzle flash is also very tame. SHOT partially in the dark and I would say Its a tenth of my buddies Benny Cooley even in light. Concussion wise it was good, definitely way better then the JP brake but jeez .308 AR's are just loud as hell. I shot my .308 side by side with my girls Middy 14.5 AR15 and I would say they feel nearly identical.

ETA I'm so in love, I just shelved my plans of buying myself a sig 556XI russian for Christmas. Just ordered a KAC CQB 7.62 through my dealer, gonna send in my first NFA paperwork tomorrow, I CAN'T WAIT!!!!
