Good Evening everyone! This is my first post and I have a question regarding the 7.62x39.
I have done a good deal of .556 builds but am new to the 7.62.  I am a little worried about the A2
front sight block on the 7.62 barrel and was hoping to get some reassurance. The barrel
at the gas block is .750 and the bore is .300 which leaves (.450 total) .225 on either side of the
bore .  When I measure the gas block taper pin from the inside bottom of the gas block to the top
of the taper pin is .185.  What I am worried about is that leaves only .40 to the bore.  Is this
enough material between the bore and the pin to be safe?  Thank you so much for your collective
help in advance and I look forward to becoming an active member of the forum!  Thanks again!

Ask adco or John at retro arms works. Either of these guys can tell you.

.04 to the bore is pretty close.  I would get a new FSB and re-drill lower. (assuming this is a used front sight you were going to re-use on a 7.62x39 barrel, if its already mated, then I would just use it until failure.

Thanks so much for the replies! Jaqufrost yes Sir it's already mated.

If it failed it would probably vent gas out of the bottom of your barrel.  The rifle would probably still cycle for a bit, but I wouldn't want to have my hand directly under the front sight when it vented.

Given the steel pin behind the thin barrel section it might run 10,000 rounds without failing.
