I am on another build trip. I have several Spikes Tactical T2 buffers that use tungsten powder instead of steel and tungsten discs.
Not sue if they are the cause, but I NEVER heard the AR twang until I used a lower without the T2 buffer.

Getting an AR10, going to make a heavy rifle buffer. Purchased a bottle dog ear tipping weight tungsten. It was the best price for pure tungsten, $14 for 3 ounces of powdered tungsten.

Going to take the AR10 buffer apart and put the powdered tungsten in. Hoping for another two to three ounces. Heavy AR10 buffers are VERY EXPENSIVE ($125). Standard rifle weight is 5.4 ounces, Heavy Buffers makes a 303 stainless 10 ounce buffer.

I think that's a great idea.  I cannibalized one of my ST-T2 buffer to make one heavier tungsten buffer.  Can't remember off the top of my head but I think I was able to add another 2 oz

Seems like replacing the steel weights in a standard buffer with proper tungsten weights would give you a heavier buffer... but is this about noise, or making the rifle run?

Tap the bolt out make some plugs then locktite the inner one in first fill the rear part of the bolt with tungsten then cap it with another steel plug using locktite.  That should give u a few more ounces...    I had to do that with my beowulf bolt.   Helped out a ton..

You should post some pics of the process. Thinking about doing the same thing for a buffer in my maten build

when you say that you tapped out the bolt to fill with tungsten, could you explain what you mean? I am thinking bolt as in BCG.
I am going to pick up some tungsten as well to achieve the same in my 308, but I am modifying the buffer.

Been making my own buffers for many years with 304 stainless and tungsten powder.
Made them for many rifle and pistol builds and its nice to have buffers that don't rattle and clap when shooting suppressed +
you can fine tune them too.

and even done a few carriers too
