After seeing an online ad for Ruger’s new SR-762, it really got me to thinking about the AR-10 platform again. In the past, I’d never given it much thought, but when I saw Ruger’s new offering, it really got me to thinking. I’ve spent the last week or so doing some pretty serious research and it’s all let me to the conclusion, that this is a pretty dang cool gun – and I want one!
The problem is, I really can’t think of a reason to justify (at least to my wife) dropping what will be easily over $2K (by the time I get a decent optic on it) on this type of rifle. I really don’t hunt much, even though I enjoyed it when I went years ago. I don’t have a place nearby that would offer more than 200 – 300 yards to “play” with it. I’m not going to be sprawled out on my roof every night waiting for evil doers bent on nefarious deeds to come within range so I can drop them before they ever get within 500 yards of my property. My mind can conceive of hundreds of Rambo-ish situations; anything from terrorists to an invasion of feral hogs. But in reality, I’m really struggling for a reason to spend that kind of cash on something that will spend most of its life in the safe. Come on…someone please tell me something that I’m not thinking of!! This is just too sweet of a platform for me not to have!! |

Ruger? Eewww...
The only piston 7.62/.308 that I really care for is the SCAR 17 (minus the trigger) and POF. And I never really understood the sub-18" barreled 308s. How about a good gas impingement AR with an 18" barrel. You will be putting a variable magnified scope on it right? Check Armalite, CMMG, Bison Armory, etc. |

I think I'd wait till it gets recalled 3-4 times for fixes, before I made that leap! |

The OP wasn't asking which .308 AR to buy, he's just seeking reasons to push him over the edge to buy one. This is an Arfcom specialty.... get with it!!! lol
The Ruger is nice rifle and if something should go wrong with it Ruger has some of the best customer service in the business so no worry. Tell your wife that its an "investment" and that in the current market you can buy the gun, enjoy it and if you should ever be in a bind you can sell it in a heartbeat and get almost all of your money back. You could also go with "Honey, we need this because I saw two bigfeets rummaging through the garbage yesterday". |
