Right now I just need a bolt.  Still shopping around and deciding on that one.  Any feedback on that front is welcome as well.  I picked up a RRA carrier from EE as well as the sights.  Upper is an Aero Precision I picked up from Primary Arms' Labor Day sale with a BCM Mod 4 charging handle too.  Lower is a Del Ton with Stag guts and an MOE stock.  Picked up a heavy barrel from GunBroker, 1:10" twist chrome lined with M4 ramps.  Gas block is a YHM low pro clamp-on.

Resized photos, apologies for the low quality.  Really need a digital camera.

Apologies. A photographer I'm not obviously.  Only have my iPhone for photos.

I'll edit and resize them.

Sotaarms.com has x39 bolts in stock. I have used quite a few of them with no issues. If you are going to run commie ammo make sure to pick up an enhanced firing pin and an xp hammer spring. ASC makes the only x39 mags that work.

I just picked up the bolt/firing pin combo from Rubber City Armory...seems pretty nice

I'm much farther behind in my build though....looks real nice!!

eta: what rail is that?
9/25/2013 8:01:22 PM EDT
[#5]
The rail is a Samson Evolution 12.37"   I really like the rail, it's super light and gives you lots of options on mounting without having to have a full quad rail.  FYI, I actually had to move the rail up a bit because my low profile gas block from YHM wouldn't clear it.  Ironic no?  You can mount rails at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock, or at 45-degree offsets.  It comes with 2-2" rail sections and 1-4" rail section.  I have the 4" mounted up front for my AFG 2.

Edit:  What does that Rubber City bolt look like.  Is the area by the lugs real beefy?  From what I read that's where most of the breakage occurs on these bolts....

Quick question for all you guys running ASC mags.  Do these "break in".  I enhanced mine by trimming down the front lip a bit and the ammo seems to be feeding well.  The damn things are really hard to load though.  Like exponentially tougher than my 5.56 mags.  Anyone that's got these, do the springs relax any? Or are they just tough bastards???

Mine haven't relaxed any over time, the last five or so rounds are a bitch.  I usually down-load by 2 on my 30 rounders, not that I have to, I do it by choice.  I haven't had issues running the full 30 in a mag.  The first round can be stiff to strip on the full 30.  I can't ride the bolt home at all on a full mag, gotta pull it all the way back and let it fly or it has no chance of going into battery.

Put 60 rounds of TulAmmo through this thing today.  Only issue was a sustained 30mph wind that showed up just before I started shooting and 3 of the hardest damn primers I've ever seen in my life.  I got the enhanced bolt/firing pin from Cason engineering and it put a helluva dent in those things.  I have no idea how they didn't light off but it wasn't for lack of penetration.  Accuracy was great given I was using Irons and had a helluva crosswind to contend with.  Really this was a reliability and function run.  The gun cycled flawlessly, no short strokes, no feed jams, no FTE.  It just ran.  My only bitch is that the ASC mags are great 20 rounders.  Unfortunately you will damn near break your fingers trying to cram 10 more rounds in there.  So I just shot 20 at a time.  Can't wait to actually measure my accuracy with this platform.  So far I'm loving it, and so is my wallet.  Wal-mart had TulAmmo for $5.17/box this past Sunday.

Good to hear everything works well. I may pick up a Cason engineering and rubber city armory bolt as well. They both look like excellent quality bolts. I already have an LMT 7.62x39 bolt but it is good to have backups.
Are you running an extra power hammer spring?

10/10/2013 4:56:25 PM EDT

Try a 5.56 Lula mag loader to make the 7.62x39 loading go more smoothly. I. can load a full 30 with one and with minimal cussing involved.  :).

Just a stock FCG from Stag.  I didn't see the benefit in the extra power spring with the enhanced Bolt and firing pin.  If it continues to be an issue I might get one from Wolff. I almost bought one of the Rubber City bolts, let me know if you pick one up.  I'm thinking I might get a backup just in case.  There's not a lot of metal around the lugs on these bolts.

Can I get some measurements of the bolts? Like the recess depth, lug length, and bolt face measurements? Think I have. 7.62 bolt but not sure

Trijicon TA33-G13 (7.62x39 reticle) ACOG on one and an Eotech EXPS2 on the other.

I'd go with a Bushnell TRS-25 if I was on a budget.  Excellent budget MRD.  Very durable and very good battery life.  I have 3 of them on various firearms.

I'm anxious myself.  Gotta get out and get the bench set up.  Autumn is really starting to set in up here in the far north TX Panhandle.  Meaning heinous wind and falling temps, we actually had some flurries today.  I'm hoping I can get out and get some range time in decent conditions.

Im using the Mueller 1-4x24 Speedshot ordered from SWFA for $271.39. It came paired with their S.S.A.L.T mount. I like it a lot. The dot looks like it is 2 MOA at 100 meters. It makes going out to 200 meters a little tough but we were able to keep all the round in the big diamond. The 1x will allow you to shoot with both eyes open as well.

Good looking rifle. I just built one myself and have been very happy with it. I went with the SOTA upper and ATI polymer lower. It chugs right though that Tulammo like champ.

I've been running the mags with 20 rounds in them and they function flawlessly.  I've been able to load them up to 25 rounds but they're very stiff.  Need to try a mag loader and see if that makes things any easier.

Small updates.  Changed mags to 28-round C Defense Products and got a dedicated lower.  Will report on the mags once I get a chance to test them.  Definitely like the Stag trigger in my 5.56 lower better though.  Going to have to upgrade that first.  Damn this hobby is expensive and more addictive than illicit substances.  Wearing an Ergo grip and an MOE stock for now. Both guns got Magpul trigger guards too.  Still shopping stocks to see what I really want and probably going to have an optic for Christmas.

Also my first attempt at a color fill on the Spikes lower.  Not perfect, but a good learning experience.  Still needs some cleanup around the white lettering.  Plus it was a blem to begin with.

Oh and this happened too....

I use standard springs in the FCG. I got my bolt and pin from Cason Engineering. Brad is top notch on his work and great support from them too.

Thanks for the compliment. Hope to see you putting one together soon too.

I built my 7.62x39 AR with a SOTA arms upper and poly lower. It is awesome. Seems to really like TulAmmo 154 gr sp. Anyway, I am running a Muller 1x4 X reddot. Got it from SWFA for $270 with their mount. It looks great on the rifle and is handy for close in and out a bit further.

Have a great new year

Correct.  Some bolts apparently have been prone to breakage.  Mags are finicky sometimes.  I have ASC and C Defense Products.  The ASCs will load to 20 rounds and function flawlessly, any more and they start screwing up.  The C Defense mags are 28-rounds and they function perfect for me.  Here's some comparisons on firing pins.  Looks like Cason took off around .030" on mine.

Hope this helps y'all.
