| I have owned and have my share of AR 15 and really don't know a lot about the AR 10. I am wanting to just buy a upper because we make our own barrels ( the comp. i work for ) and are going to start making the 7.62. Who makes a quality AR 10 that will not break the bank? I have looked at Smith and Wesson and DPMS so far. |

You will need to know if you are wanting a original AR-10 [A/B] (Armalite Pattern) or a DPMS Pattern (Generallly Most "Popular" Pattern) lower so It will match-up with your upper you plan to use...I'm guessing you want the DPMS pattern... |

Ok I will research DPMS much cheaper. I was reading about 6.8 today but my Boss isn't going to make those barrels. |

I have looked at Smith and Wesson and DPMS so far. So you will be basically building it. I've owned 5 different AR10's, 2 of which are .260 Remingtons, the other 3 were 7.62 NATO or .308 Winchester. I would find a quality billet receiver set, or a set from Armalite for the AR-10A via 7.62sass.com (they have been sold out for months on those receivers). Mega Machine, Black Rain Ordnance, and Iron Ridge Arms make some nice billet sets. Get a BCG and make sure your company uses a well-made barrel extension, correctly heat-treated before feed ramps are precision cut. Use a reamer for a self-loader, not a bolt gun. Once you have the receiver set, BCG, and barrel worked out, the rest of the parts are basically up to you with a few caveats. Buffers and recoil springs are different for the .308 guns. I got totally out of .308 because of the 6.5 Grendel and .260 Rem, both of which shoot 6.5mm bullets with better energy retention and less wind drift. |

After reading up on AR 10 they seem a lot harder to build then your typical AR 15. My Boss corrected me and he is going to start making 7.62 but for AK's 39 ?? He has been making 10.5" 5.56 barrels all week so I think he is switching up to AK's |
