I'm interested in obtaining an affordable .308 AR, and the DPMS Recon .308 looks like a good value. Has anyone had any experience with this rifle or line of LR-308? I'm looking to use mainly for hunting and range time.
What can I expect as far as reliability, accuracy, and part interchangeability? Anything I should be looking out for? |

I bought one last year and enjoyed it. At 50 yds ic could get 3 shots touching with good ammo. At 80 yds they opened up more. It uses pmags which is good |

For hunting and light range use you'll probably be just fine. It is a lower spectrum .308 and in my opinion not suitable for much more than that. You'll achieve good acceptable accuracy with a decent choice in ammo and it'll be great out to 600 yards if you do your part.
If you want it for home Defence/serious outdoor work/ shooting classes you'd be better served to save your money and buy something a little higher up the food chain. Best of luck and happy hunting. |

Have an LR-308T set up with a LaRue SPR mount and a Vortex Diamondback. Very excited to hunt whitetails with it, I can group 5 inside a 3" orange target sticker at 110 yards... I wont be winning any benchrest competitions with it, but thats not why I bought it.
ETA: Thats with Remington 150gr Core-Lokts. I have some federal GMM in 168gr that I haven't had the opportunity to shoot yet. I'm thinking the groups will tighten a bit. |

I did quite a bit of research on the Recon a while back.
The handguard is removable and takes a Low-Profile DPMS pattern handguard. It seems like the barrel is a decent barrel, and all of the other DPMS 308 guns I have looked into seem to be capable of 2moa or better with good ammo and a good trigger-puller. I have not experience with the gun directly, but my experience with DPMS has been nothing but good. I would get one, swap out the trigger and furniture to what I wanted and use it. |
